quick question, have lately had some very mottley stock, its 80-90gsm bond. At the caliper setting the print is very average. If i wind up the pressure, from 0.1 to around 0.02, the situatio improves, and a bit more ink than usual and its a sharp image.
The question is, on the Shinoharas, is this a "safe" thing to do? Ive never really though about it until recently when a heidelberg tech mentioned it shouldnt be done on really thick boards etc.
cheers

My thoughts are that on light stock it wont hurt anything, but winding up the impression on a heavy board could possibly hurt the cylinder bearings and put a lot of pressure on the driveline, leading to premature wear in gears etc...but thats pretty extreme.. I remember watchin an older printer trying to run 300gsm board on about .05 setting as he didnt want to replace a damamged blanket. The press was nearly stopping with each revolution and the dots were a mess lol..

I am not a press engineer... so i could be really very wrong too :)
