Happens at press where operators think they are better judges than others. Yes this is true. But it also happens with the experts.

At the recent IPA “Ink Optimization RoundUP” an expert "states in his report, that … one solution (----------) was judged to be better than the original!"

Now how can a result be better than the target. So much for the objective scientific evaluation methods used by our experts.

Maybe there was an error in how this was reported but if it is true, I just have to LOL.

It's true, if you believe press reports. But it may be just an example of very creative promotional copywriting.

Quoting from the press release published on What They Think ( IPA study confirms superior ICEserver visual performance - Printing Industry News from WhatTheyThink ) which is the same as the vendor's on their site, reveals the twists and turns of marketing spin. My emphasis in bold.

[PR} "There is a clear top performer in the critical Visual Evaluation section of the IPA 2010 "Ink Optimization RoundUP" "FineEye Color Solutions' ICEserver Litho tops nearly a dozen products in Visual Evaluation, matching the targeted original GRACoL print."

Bottom line: it visually matches the target. Well bravo I say.

[PR} "In this study, ICEserver was determined to have the best visual quality."

Hmm, first it matched but now it has the best visual quality. I wonder what that means?

[PR} "Dr. Sharma states in his report, that "… one solution (FineEye ICEserver Litho) was judged to be better than the original!"

So now it doesn't match because it's deemed visually better than the original.

[PR} "In order to be successful, ink optimized images need to preserve the look of an unoptimized image," continued Dr. Sharma."

Oh dear, because it's better than the original it can't be successful because it doesn't preserve the look of the unoptimized image.

[PR} "Visual evaluation results from this independent analysis confirm ICEserver's ability to match the original."

Ooops, now it's no longer better than the original because it now matches the original again.

FL:rolleyes:
