Slug Software - for InDesign prep

I was wondering if you could help us out with a software question .

We are shopping around for a slug software that pulls info from the job and auto fills fields into the slug (rather than manually filling in the info). Do you guys use something like that? Or how do you populate your slug information for jobs? Would you have any recommendations?

Are you talking about all that stuff that goes at the bottom of pages with the name of your company and the operator and the date, etc. Why not just use your RIP to put that stuff on the hard proof?

You could always use InDesign's data merge feature.

At this end of the workflow that stuff has to be removed to put the pages into production.
