Sun Chemical has launched SunLam De-seaming Adhesive. This new de-seamable adhesive helps to recycle polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) without process changes. Developed in partnership between Sun Chemical & Eastman Chemical (EMN), the SunLam adhesive is used on labels made with Eastman Embrace LV co-polyester.

The combination has been extensively tested and endorsed by the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR), after passing stringent testing. By using the SunLam adhesive on Eastman Embrace LV co-polyester, shrink labels are de-seamed during the whole bottle wash step of the wet recycling process, without sacrifice of label performance. The tests utilized whole bottle wash equipment at commercial recycling facilities & yielded results greater than 95% label removal, with results typically exceeding 99%.
