Total Ink Coverage too high

Agon

Hello! I'm new in this community and i'm from Italy.. so sorry for my bad english..

i've a question that could sound like a noob one but i'd need an answer.

What exatly it happens i print an image that has lots of areas that overflow 280% Total Ink Limit (till 300%) and my editor asked me to keep it under 280?
The image will be too dark? too much contrast? can i have some color changes too in the final result?

i know that i had to keep attention, but i wanted to know what i should expect to see printed.

ps: Happy Easter to everyone! :)

Thanks for the referral Alois.

My blog is translated into Italian by google. Not the best translation but it might help you.

If your total ink coverage is too high you might have drying problems like set-off (some people call this offsetting) where the wet ink transfers from the top side of one sheet to the bottom side of the one on top of it. You might also have poor overprint ink trapping which you might see as mottle.

Usually the area where the the total ink coverage is greater than 280% has to be larger than about 3 cm square before you would see a problem.

agon i think that its important to stress that when you exceed the total recomended ink coverage you begin to get into areas that could be a problem with drying and more importantly ink offsetting or blocking. when they say to keep it under 280 percent the recomendation should be folowed to insure risk free printing. also bear in mind that if you inline varnish a job the 100 percent inline varnish gets added to the total ink coverage. so it now becomes 380 percent total ink coverage. VERY DANGEROUS!!!! if on the other hand the press has an inline coater you have a bit more wiggle room.
