Hi,

My colleauge has told me abt undershot and overshot inking system.

He cant explain much abt it.
So can you tel me what is under shot and over shot??

The normal ink fountains you see on sheetfed and most web presses are under shot ink fountains. The fountain blade is below the center line of the ink fountain roller and the ink sits on top of the blade.

Over shot ink fountains are not common and are on a very few newspaper presses. The blade is on top of the ink fountain roller and the ink sits below the ink fountain roller in a tray. The ink is contacting the rotating ink fountain roller and is carried up to the blade where the excess ink is scrapped off and then flows back to the tray. The over shot blade has keys to control the amount of ink on the ink fountain roller in a similar way to the under shot method.

One basic difference is that the under shot system is used for both high and low viscosity inks, while the over shot ink fountain is for low viscosity inks.
