Variable Data Options...

We have a client that is wanting 20,000 full color mailers printed. The complication is that they want each one to have a unique bar code on one side linked to the mailing address listed on the other side. It is 11x17 and full color with heavy coverage on both sides including full bleeds.

Normally we would just run this on the press but and then imprint the necessary information on a laser printer but with so many I am wondering how others might handle this.

have you possibly thought of running the 4color on the press and then cutting them down and imprinting them on your digital press?

We don't have a digital press. We just have conventional offset presses and laser printers.

I was thinking there might be some type of attachment for our press that would imprint variable data.

I have only seen this for web offset presses, not sheetfed.
If it is available, I am betting that the investment would not be practical for such limited use.
You would be better of buying a digital printer to do your imprints on.

The other option would be an inkjet/mailing system that you could run the cut-down pieces on to do the imprints with.

Or find a vendor who can imprint your offset-printed pieces for you at a reasonable cost.

Well this is a monthly jobs so I guess we will just do it on the laser printer.
