Wide format for commercial print proofing???

We're upgrading our prepress system and want/need to upgrade our proofer as well. It's an Epson 9600 and is about seven years old. We are currently not doing any in-house wide format though we do occasionally source it. Is there a machine that can produce high quality proofs and double as a wide format that prints on a variety of role substrates?

Epson 9890 - We use them for contract proofing.

Industry has been doing that for 15+ years. EFI has their Fiery XF software that can drive a 9600 for contract proofing as well as general wide format proofing. I'm sure that there are other options to compare. All of them should be able to be used as independent RIP's so that you don't have to replace the whole workflow.
