Xerox 242 Light Pro Finisher vs Offline solutions

Hi,

I'm just starting out and ordered a Xerox 242. I initially looked at the Light Production finisher, but heard some mixed reviews.

I'm just curious if anyone had experience with it.

I've already got a quote for an offline paper folder, creaser and booklet maker and am sort of leaning toward the offline solutions.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Offline all the way. We have the light production finisher on a 260 and we use it only for decurling and roll-folding leaflets. That said, the decurler rocks and we don't have the dosh to buy an offline folder that'll handle the weights that the finisher can.

Creaser is essential whether you've got the finisher or not.

I can't say enough about our booklet maker, we used to use the finisher for that, but the amount of cutting you have to do after to finish a booklet with full bleed, and the difficulty in adjusting your fold, and the unreliability just made it a nightmare.

If you have the money, go offline. Offline is more flexible and generally a better quality finishing option.

Cheers Che.C,

I appreciate your advice.

Put in the order for the offline equipment today; just hoping the business is out there to cover the costs.

I recommend offline too, you'll have more flexibility and reliability to do different jobs.

the light production finisher is great if you do a lot of multisheet a3 brochures folded to a4 (lettersize). otherwise it is ok for decurling only, especially since it is way more convenient to print srA3 and cut it, then print letterhead and fold it inline.

I agree with the offline finishing solutions. Unless you are doing complex VDP books, you'll have more versatility. You will also be ready if you get into offset work.
