Xerox 242 printing problem

Hi Guys

Basically im trying to print letterheads with black only text on the reverse. So ive gone ahead and printed the front side in colour.

I then send the reverse side which terms & conditions which is greyscale.

Now everytime i print grey scale either via straight from the printer it prints half a sheet??

Any suggestions?

Hmm, looks fine, try the different screen options (image tab) - sometimes these can have unpredictable effects.

Of course the problem may lie in your original file, sometimes I find that pdfs from Quark will randomly drop off text. Are you printing to the queue or dropping a pdf in? If you've done one, try the other. If you've been printed it, try sending it again, sometimes jobs get corrupted on the way. Does it print ok in CMYK mode?

Outlining the fonts will fix this, refrying the pdf (export to postscript>distill to pdf) may do it.

If all else fails you can just rasterize the page (not ideal because of all the text, but sometimes needs must).

Just a quick question, did you upgrade your mac OS to 10.6.5 lately? We noticed similar output problems when printing to our Xerox 242 (Fiery rip) from InDesign after the OS upgrade. Our IT guy had to fix the cups filter which resolved the problem.

I seem to have solved the issue now.

Found that yes if you set the job in pdf, then hit print to the fiery.

But then once in the fiery i found that if i told it what stock it was (which i didnt think you had to do after telling the printer what it is)

Then it worked a dream

What is the "cups filter"?
