Ok, so Xerox has come to us with their proposal. We ave been givn 2 options.

1: Stay with the 7002 and wait for them to figure out a solution. NO THANKS!

2: Do a "like for unlike" swap. In this case they will give us an 8000AP to replace the shotty 7002, for no extra cost. Sounds good, however: We curretlyhave a staker/stapler on the 7002, that does not do wat it was sold to us to do. We were toldthat it does the same thin as the HCS but also staples, for less money. Well, it doesn't. The stacker will not take 300gsm. So, we will ask them to trade the SS for a HCS.

We have a few other service related requests that we woud like met before we continue. Of, course Xerox wants to work quickly. Kind of funny how they want to resolve this quickly NOW! Why coudn't it be resolved this quickly the first time.

I'm not at libery to tell you all everything, b/c I agree to keep most details confidential.

More details after all is said and done.

I will keep updates coming until everything is comepletely resolved.

Also, I'm looking for info on the 8000AP. Who out there is running one, and can tell me a little bit about it?
 
I know the HCSS will not accept 300gsm in the high cap tray but should take in the top output tray. The 8000AP is a good machine. I've refurbed one and serviced a few. It takes all weights of paper at the same print speed due to the AP at the end.
The AP stands for extra NVM values for fuser temps and changed the wire harness in the fuser to accomidate the speed changes.

As you stated, the HCS and SS are different-- Aside from the stapling capability, with the HCS you can proof jobs in the middle of a run, it holds 3500 sheets in the stacker and 250 sheets in the top tray; and holds all media types the machine can print up to 110 lb. cover (300gsm). The SS holds 2,000 sheets (1,500 less), holds up to 80 lb. Cover (220 gsm).

The HCS is much better for longer runs, and heavier weight stock.

What do you want to know about the 8000AP, had mine for a little more than 2 years and am very happy with the overall performance. PM me with whatever you want to know.

I just found this post and wish I would have been more active on here.

We're on our 2nd 7002 because they had to replace the first one for the exact same color issues. Two weeks later the second one is doing the same ERRATIC color, too magenta in one corner, too cyan in a spot in the middle, streaks AND different on every sheet and paper.

We also just lost a customer over a $1400 job that looked horrible. Xerox's suggestion was to rerun the 4.5x3.5" card one (rather than 10) up in the center of the (expensive) paper to stay out of the bad areas. I asked who would pay the almost $800 difference in material and click cost, and they said they were just "trying to help."

Techs, specialist, blahblahblah, have been in and out constantly replacing parts and claiming "not Xerox paper" and "color settings" while still confused. They're coming back today and I'll gladly show them this tread with hopes that we can skip to the next step.

When they tell you guys that the problem is that you are not using Xerox paper do they try the job on Xerox paper and see if it fixes the problem. I am a tech for a different company so I can totally believe paper can be the cause of the issues but it's pretty easy to prove.

Even after having an engineer from NY come and try to fix it, the color issue was still there with no idea how to solve it. (Even though the densitometer said it was in spec - the eyeball definitely said different!)

Xerox offered us a deal on a new (untested) 800 which is too much machine for us. So, we downsized to a 700 which was just installed last week. - Hoping for some acceptable quality on it, but outsourcing the "important" color/registration.

Hi all, sorry I haven't been on in quite a while.

First off: stacyg - did you run samples on the 700 before you installed it or did they put it in fast enough so that you didn't have time to? I ran samples on the 700, b/c they gave me the same option, but what I got back was more of the same. The 700 has the same problem. you may not notice it now, but you will...Sorry I wasn't on earlier to warn you.

Jenn1978: The issues are still there and Xerox knows about them. Printers all over the country, and worl for that matter are having the same issues. I think it's a Xerox issue in general. Something about there print process causes this issue. I have seen it in every Xerox engine I have tested. So, needless to say, do not buy a Xerox, you WILL regret it.

We are putting in a KM6501. They do not have the issue.

msaeger: They problem is not paper. We have tested and ruled it out.

I would recommend the 7000/8000 or AP version of the same. It uses a beefier laser, 1 per color and uses a different type of drum. Email or call if you have any questions. I also would recommend buying a used one versus a new one. Lower price and has been tested in the field already.

I had my second 7002 replaced by an 8000AP. It has the same issue. Worse, actually. The 700 as well.

No not a salesman. I'm an independant service tech. I work on all of the docucolor line up to iGen. I also work on the black and white equipment. I do know that the 700 had some major density isues. I have been working on Xerox equipment for 15 years and I haven't seen any issues with the 8000. If you want to give me a call I left my number on the previous post.

I remember reading all this when you first started the thread and have just re-read it all...

We currently have a 5000ap and have been looking at our possible upgrade options, as you say in your first message the 5000ap is great... however other than the machine and the engineers we're starting to go off Xerox quite a bit.

Apparently the 5000ap is being discontinued, so from checking the xerox website (Digital Color Printing : Color Printing Press : Xerox) the next machine up is a 7002... and they don't seem to work. After this it's the Color 800.

Another printers quite close to us has put in an 7002 machine and is having exactly the same issues as you describe... everyone who's had an 7/8000ap machine seem to find them quite good, but these aren't even available any more!

On top of this the billing is absolutely useless! I don't know if you also have to deal with the indian call centre but it really is like banging your head against the wall most of the time. We're talking about quite simple things like incorrect meter readings being used and them not being able to locate cheques (or even bank transfers!) ....this would all be just about ok, however in recent months they seem to be putting machines on stop if they go even a day late of payment. On one occasion they even phoned up (no one who deals with our accounts was available) and spoke to one of our studio guys (who has nothing whatsoever to do with any payments etc) and told him they were going to repossess the machine... you'd think they may threaten this if they hadn't been paid for 3-6 months perhaps, well no, this was because they couldn't locate the cheque that had been sent and wanted the cheque number?!? This is more frustrating since when someone other than myself phones to speak regarding any invoices they'll refuse to speak to them... the whole billing set-up is insane and I'd move to a different vendor purely because of this.

I really wish they'd just sort all this out... like I said the machine/engineers are great, however I'd honestly think twice about taking another xerox machine because of these issues (that's if there were actually any appropriate/working machines in the range to upgrade to).

We have been challenged by Xerox in the Netherlands as we have been experiencing similar problems with Xerox DC8000. As we were losing customers and money we were left with no other option than to cancel the contract.

Now Xerox is suing us and seeking compensation for loss of revenue for early return of the equipment.

History in short: 8000 installed late 2005 works fine for 4 years. Then it starts having two major issues:

1) Software reboot when you don't want to. This means you are losing your settings etc. for all your jobs. To cut a long story short: This was solved after 6 - 7 painful months when they discovered that an unused Appletalk interface was switched on but not connected.

2) Even more serious was that our equipment started to intermittently lose colours, mostly yellow. It would "stamp" the missing colour on a different page. We have been using the 8000 most of the time for printing book covers.

Although perhaps not the same problem, Xerox has been able to drive us crazy as they deny that these problems occur. They even suggest in court that we deliberately manipulated the proofs of missing colors to find an excuses to get rid of the contract. Initially they have been trying everything, which matches the story I have been reading on the 7002 issue. They have swapped the Creo rip and they swapped the whole machine. When we fount the same problem again on the latest version, we just cancelled the contract.

As I am very disappointed in the way Xerox has been handling this and furious that they take us to court to get compensation for a machine that does not work! In case of a class suit action I would be prepared to do my bit.
Anyone familiar with losing yellow on a 8000?
