Xrite 528

We have a 528 with photo spectrometer and a 528 that is just a densitometer. The expensive one with the photo spectrometer keeps saying check battery. We bought new ones for both xrites and even with the charger plugged in we keep getting this message and it will not do the reading. Xrite wants almost $700 to basically refurbash it. Anybody know either where I can get a schematic for this or someone who is more reasonably priced who can look at it. Money is tight. This is a $3000 unit but changing a diode for $700 sounds extreme. We have tried doing a battery swap and that is not the fix. I am going to take it apart this weekend and take a peak. Hopefully it is just a bad wire or a simple voltage regulator shot.

Any/all X-Rite 528s *are* spectro-densitometers. The one that's just a densitometer must not be a 528 but possibly a 508.

$700 sounds cheap to save a $3,000 instrument.

Terry

Have you tried a factory reset, not sure of the sequence off hand but it involves pressing and holding the up/down buttons on the left together for a few seconds, it might just need a kick in the pants

You are correct one is a 504 and the other is the 528. My understanding is that more options were paid for on one then the other. One only reads color density where the other will go into color and use LAB. $700 is a lot of money if the problem is an internal fuse, a loose wire or a faulty voltage regulator. If my printing press starts banding, toning or having problems feeding I attempt to fix the problems internally before spending $300 to have Heidelberg come in and stripe rollers for me. I found some stuff to check out on xrites site and my Pitman rep is trying to find other resources.

Did the factory reset and it did not help. I found that there is a newer firmware availible and part of the upgrade is regarding the battery going into trickle charge. I am trying to find the cables so I can do this upgrade on my pc.
