Xserve and RAID as a file server?

I am looking to buy new file server. thinking about Xserve or MacPro.

How reliable is it for multiple people writing/reading huge files?

What kind of a RAID do you have? XRaid is no longer sold!

If you want to stick with a Mac for your server, either one is perfectly suitable. If you have PC knowledge, running a Windows server is also a very good option. These days the server is not very relevant as long as you have all of the other pieces put together properly and have someone who can support the system you choose. Don't forget to make sure to upgrade your LAN to Gigabyte Switch if you have not already done so.

For the storage, we have had very good success with the MicrNet RAID systems. We have been selling them for years and have never had a complaint. Very good performance as well as being cost effective (2.5GB RAID 5 for under $2,000.00).
