Xerox drums on backorder

Is anyone else having issues with Xerox not shipping drums? I just looked this morning and the last drums we got shipped over a month ago. Ridiculous.

I have a few on order that have been a few weeks now that I think about it. I always make sure I have 4 on hand before ordering more so I am never really stuck. I don't understand how they can have shortages, they must have a pretty good idea of what they need and how many they go through in a months time. If the printer is down they are not making any money.

Xerox has been stingy with drums for me the past few months, but they haven't been slow to show up. A tech mentioned that that there are defective drums in the wild, so Xerox may be supply constrained while those get pruned out of the warehouses.

For some reason we went through 4-5 black drums in a row on our V180P. Given that the drums are interchangeable between all four colors, I think the problem was more to do with the machine, but we would develop small spots in black after only a few days or a week of use. I know that there was also an issue like 6 months ago in regards to drums for these machines.

Since you mention it.....Another printer in town had some bad drums short out a power supply in their Versant 180 last week according to the techs who came to us looking to borrow some. We didn't have any to spare though since ours had been backordered for over a week. We have been getting some that leave random solid lines across the printed pages every few hundred sheets on our 2100.

We also had one of those like you described with the inconsistent solid lines. I think it was less than a week old.

Could be defective or worn out ROS window causing black drums to to degrade fast. I just went through that on my 3100 in March and it took a few weeks and several drums to diagnose. Since the new ROS window was installed, we've had close to zero print quality issues and just ran a black drum down to 1% before we started to get black artifacts. We were having changing out black drums at 30% with the defective ROS window assembly.
