I think AI is already doing that
 
AI helps me code 20X faster (partly because I can't type fast and accurate anymore after a stroke), but it would be lost without me. It will build in bugs that require human intervention to resolve, because once it is set on something, it's very difficult to break it away from it. This is especially true for UI. It may get the functionality, but creating a pleasing, usable interface needs human touch. After 10 years of not being able to code efficiently, I have returned to building some great apps and data converters thanks to AI. AI is a tool in the toolbox, not a replacement for anything.

Yes, for now. But remember, the essence of AI is that it is constantly "learning". The more it is used, the more it learns about how to be more efficient in the future.
 
AI has been priceless in updating my 10 year old scripts to current PHP 8.X standards. It does in a few minutes what would take me hours to check line by line and correct. It also addresses security flaws in the process.
