    ineo+ 284e and vdp software

Sure, you could have some trouble with heavy coverage on pre-printed shells. The biggest concern for me was always the ink transferring to the fuser rollers and then smudging onto your next job or causing toner not to fuse all the way. For what it's worth, I have an ineo + 284e printer in my...

    ineo+ 284e and vdp software

Well, it sounds like you do need something more potent than MS Word. If you're using Fusion Pro or Xmpie you can output your merged data to a pdf file so it's already "pre-ripped" for printing, in which case it shouldn't slow you down when you try to print. Is slow printing your concern when you...

    ineo+ 284e and vdp software

If you're printing to that, and you're just looking to merge a few B&W variables, I would go with Fusion Pro. XMPie would probably be too costly an option for what you need to do. And if I was being cheap and I didn't already have InDesign, I'd probably just merge my documents out of MS Word...

    Probably an unusual question

Irfanview might work for you. It has a batch image processing feature that even lets you select the size, in KB, of the output files. IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide

    Canon service?

What Kristie said here is really worth mentioning twice. With such a large company it's hard to gauge their service record and level of tech experience. I've had bad service with one type of Xerox and then excellent service with a newer piece of equipment. For my own two cents regarding Canon...

Xerox DocuColor 5000 versus DocuColor 7002/8002

Rob, what kind of media are you running the most and what kind of toner coverage? We run a lot of gloss cover 80 & 100#, and at least 50-75% toner coverage (we print postcards). I'm wondering if this is a big contributing factor. Just curious if you're doing something similar.

Xerox DocuColor 5000 versus DocuColor 7002/8002

Well, the surprise is that the drums rarely last for the rated amount before getting a subtle defect, and often we have to change the SAME drum multiple times per job. I had a 5,000 sheet job last week that required 4 cyan drums, in addition to the other drums needing changing. The tech...

    Xerox 800/1000 monthly volume

What has Xerox's service said or done about this? I know if we were experiencing this with our 5000s we would have had them out here every day, but by this time they'd have replaced every relevant part. Is this type of paper fairly uncommon for you?

    Zapf not embedding

Interesting. Thanks for finding an answer. I've had similar issues in the past where it seemed like an embedding issue even though a font was in fact embedded. Nice to finally know why.

    Variable Data Plugin for Indesign

We tested Fusion Pro here because we heard good things about it. I can confirm its quality software, but we didn't go with it because we do large quantities of VDP and needed something to render files faster. We use Pageflex right now, but wanted to see some of the features in FP. I believe the...

    Xerox Vs. Ricoh

Have to agree with this. The toner & supplies situation with Xerox is typical. If you don't want to be caught out with nothing on the shelf then stock up ahead of time on toner when they aren't back-ordering it. Yes, hording behavior leads to them being in short supply, but I don't go...

Xerox DocuColor 5000 versus DocuColor 7002/8002

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one, and kind of happy we only have two. Any more and we'd need to get a person just to check the print quality. So have you heard anything about the 8002 that makes you think drums wouldn't be a problem, or do you think it would be a similar scenario?

Xerox DocuColor 5000 versus DocuColor 7002/8002

Sorry, I may have made my 5000s sound worse than they are. It's not every 2000 sheets for sure, it's just a worse case senario, typically it happens when we do a 12x18 duplexed sheet w/ about 90% coverage - so when we're really covering the page. A job like that might go through 2 drums on...
