    Cutting thick card stock

I would find a local printer who has a guillotine cutter and have them trim the job. Or if you do want to buy one let me know. We have a used Challenge 305 MCPB cutter we would be willing to sell for a couple grand. They are cast iron, heavy and shipping could be costly; we're in upstate NY.

    Advice for HP Indigo Purchase

Yes, I agree, if you're really interested you should go to dScoop. I was in Orlando last year and it's a great place to discuss exactly what you're discussing here. Also, if you're seriously looking to attend tell your HP sales rep you want to attend and he can either get you in for nothing or...

    Advice for HP Indigo Purchase

I've purchased two Indigo's, a 5000 in 2005 and a 5500 in 2007. We're also currently looking at a 7800. I wouldn't buy anything else! I know the lease is higher and the cost is up there but the reliability is second to none. The offset look to the sheet and the stability of the color is key as...

    Strange Photoshop/Illustrator behavior

I would "merge visible layers" in Photoshop and then place it in Illustrator. I always save a layered and flattened (merged) file out of Photoshop. I never place layered PS files in Ill because of the issue you're having. Working with flattened images also allows the RIPs to process the file faster.

    Microwavable Soy Based Inks

Yes, litho. Thanks for the info! Our ink supplier (a large national one) seems unsure. That was my first resource, Print Planet is my second. I'm just looking for someone who has experience printing microwavable paperboard cartons and if they use UV or soy inks. We would prefer soy.... Thanks...

    Microwavable Soy Based Inks

Has anyone printed packaging that would go into the microwave (2-3 min) using soy based inks? If so, what ink vendor? Special blacks? We already have a good aqueous coating solution and substrate. Just investigating ink options... Your feedback is appreciated!

    Workflow Recommendations

We are a medium size shop that produces 40" offset and digital printing. Our commercial vs. packaging mix is 20% commercial 80% packaging. We are looking at purchasing an entirely new workflow and I'm looking for your feedback and/or recommendations. We are looking at purchasing packaging...

Hi resolution inkjet for folder gluer

I was wondering if anyone knew where we may be able to find an equipment supplier that can sell us a high resolution inline inkjet system for a folder gluer. We need the resolution to be a minimum of 600dpi x 600dpi. I'm looking for something like Domino's Bitjet plus (Bitjet plus | Domino...

    Heidelberg XL105 Plate Punch

ChristopherF1, Thanks for your reply but we have been punching plates manually by hand out at our press of the past 15+ years as we bend them. We are just switching from a Komori shop to a Heidelberg shop and our (new to us) XL105 did not come with a punch only a bender. I have NEVER had a...

    Presstek Dimension 425 Platemaker

We have a Presstek Dimension 425 Platemaker we are looking to sell. We are relocating to a new facility in 4 weeks and this machine MUST go. We need to get rid of this machine fast therefore I am going to throw out a great number. Everything works fine and I will include the RIP's, punch and...

    Digital Presses for Packaging (Board)

I would like to thank everyone in advance for your input. We currently have an HP Indigo 5500. We are looking for a new digital press that can print quality work while printing variable data. I discussed this with HP; they do sell a board kit for the HP to turn it into a 5600 but that will only...

    Multiple Screening

Gordo - We currently have a solution like that. We are just doing too many versions and when it is a fully imposed press sheet for a 40" press those large files do not process quickly. That is why we are looking for a solution that can do it on the fly...

    Multiple Screening

Does anyone know of a solution that could produce 1-bit Tiff's with multiple screening? We have Esko's Nexus Rip and I know that they have in a plugin but it will not work. Here is the catch! We need a solution to produce a regular round dot on some elements and then lines on other elements. I...
