File names - Extreme Zip archives

The thing to remember is that files copied via CIFS only work when accessed by CIFS. Copying with CIFS, dismounting and mounting with AFP won't work. I actually have my server mounted twice, one as AFP and one as CIFS. The volumes are easily distinguished form one another since CIFS volume is...

Am I the only Bindery worker here?

Ed, you are the the last and best line of defense against inferior printing. And while I gringe and cuss when our bindery people identify things that "just ain't right" (cuz if it went to press, it's too late), I'll replate at least twice a month due to their diligence. If your skills aren't...

Fuji Final Proof Error (Blower Unit Abnormality)

Taskero? Taskero? Only when you que more than one at at time? Well that's a mystery. A mystery that I would try to solve with previously mentioned number two, probably twice before I called FLYFUJI. It is also possible that the blower has gone bad. Do you have (the almost worthless option in...

Fuji Final Proof Error (Blower Unit Abnormality)

Take it ALL the way down Take it ALL the way down First the basic, your blower and finalproof should be on separate circuits. By shutting down "the machine" are you including the blower? Old school shutdown would include shutting down AND disconnecting everything (including SCSI from shooter)...

File names - Extreme Zip archives

Smb<>cifs Smb<>cifs No they are not. It's easy to understand why some would think so since the Mac interface for connecting to either refers to both, "Select the SMB/CIFS shared...". SMB (Server Message Block) provides no support for resource forks and CIFS (Common Internet File System) does...

File names - Extreme Zip archives

More CIFS info More CIFS info http://printplanet.com/forums/prepress-workflow-discussion/13820-long-pc-file-name-fix?highlight=CIFS You'll find a lengthy discussion at the above link. You would connect from the Mac, using "cifs" instead of "afp" in the connect dialog: "cifs://192.168.1.#"...

File names - Extreme Zip archives

You could try CIFS instead of SMB. There are certain characters that don't work in file/folder names and Adobe apps can't see fonts loaded with Suitcases from a CIFS volume (workaround is to copy fonts to HD and load from there). Also can't burn fonts from a CIFS volume to CD/DVD (in OS 10.4.x)...

    DoubleProof Manager

Thanks Rick. I've got it working, but not quite the way it was configured before. You can reset the side it's printing by going to the "Recorders & Proofers" (from View window). In the Cassette Attributes tab, click the Reset button. Then you can select which side will print next.

    EPS files and Quark 7

QX7 was the final straw for me. Rather than using the color name from the EPS, it'll use a similar name from it's color libraries. InDesign doesn't. PANTONE 485 CVC gets changed in QX7. Editing the color name in QX will work while the file is open, but close and re-open and QX7 "corrects" the...

Navigator 8 Ripping CTs at different angles than LW

Is the option to include halftone screens checked when the DCS2 CT is saved from PSD? If so, this can override RIP settings.

Need help with DoubleProof Manager software running in Win2K

The hard drive with the DPM software crashed, and though I've installed the software (1.6.1) on a new drive I can't get it to print to my HP device. The HP is working; it can be 'pinged', can print test pages and will print single sided proofs from our Nexus RIP. In the "Device Utilities" app...

    DoubleProof Manager

Rick By chance, are you driving and HP device using a JetDirect card with DoubleProof Manager? My hard drive with DPM software (on a separate drive than the OS) has crashed. I've re-installed DPM but can't get "Device Utiliies" to recognize my HP through IP. In Device Utilities, what are your...

    Film calibration problem

Perhaps I'm old school, but don't forget DMin. Plate-able film has a DMax of 3.6 or better and a DMin of .03 or less. If neither of these values measure right, dump and rebatch the chemistry in your processor before doing anything else.

    DoubleProof Manager

You'd think that'd work You'd think that'd work But it didn't. The DuobleProof Manager was installed on a drive separate from the Win2000 OS. Back in 2002, when 30 gig drives were not small iPods, our prepress consultants configured this Noblis (sp?) box with four 1.8Ghz Xeon processors to...

    DoubleProof Manager

I need some help. The hard drive that was running our DoubleProof Manager software died yesterday. I've installed the software onto a new drive but I can't get "Device Utilities" to recognize my inkjet device. The manual describes how to set the "Comms Device" for "lpt1" or a shared printer but...

Converting CMYK text in PhotoshopCS3 to B&W

Running a prepress department without Adobe Creative Suite is akin to trying to drive a car without wheels or steering wheel, the engine and transmission work fine but you won't get anywhere. jbbbarr has a good suggestion about downloading a demo of Pitstop, I'd suggest getting a demo of the...

Converting CMYK text in PhotoshopCS3 to B&W

Not PSD!! Not PSD!! Do you have ANY version of Acrobat? Using Pitstop (an Acrobat plugin that enhances the edit-ability of PDF files) with Acrobat is a MUCH better solution for editing the color of type in a PDF. There are hoops and bars you'll need to navigate to convert vector (or 'real')...

FLH 85Z Plate Processor & Cyclone Rotator

Does anyone have experience with this processor or plate rotator? Fuji wants to change our processor, but seeing that this devices requires a chiller, we are apprehensive about changing our current processor that does not use one. They are also proposing a cyclone unit to turn our plates to...

    Imagesetter recommendations

Re: Imagesetter recommendations John I too have a Sumo, it's a great imagesetter. I have two cassettes, one with .004 film and one with .007 and both are 44" wide. With the significant reduction in film output (2001 was 200 feet a day, now is 20 feet a day) but reduced turn around (2001: film...
