Xerox Versant 180 Cyan drop out

We have had the developer housing replaced a few times over the years as well as the drive motors for it. Not sure if it is common for others but has been common for us, think it has all been fully replaced for each colour.

    Xerox drums on backorder

I have a few on order that have been a few weeks now that I think about it. I always make sure I have 4 on hand before ordering more so I am never really stuck. I don't understand how they can have shortages, they must have a pretty good idea of what they need and how many they go through in a...

Finding Good Employees ? Are We Crazy

Sounds like there is a serious black cloud hanging over your company. Our small family business have had the same people for a very long time. Our pressman has been here longer then I have been alive and I am 39. Maybe people are getting the impression they can walk all over you? Sounds like a...

PlateRite 8000 and Kodak Sonora X processless plate

How do the prices compare to the Sonora XP plates? Still waiting to hear back from a rep on these. I am assuming they cost more as they are not a replacement for the XP series?

    Kodak Sonora X plates?

Our service guy was in dealing with an issue we had with our CTP today and he mentioned some new Kodak Plates. Doing a little research I found the new Kodak Sonora X plates. Apparently they can be imaged faster and some other little positives. Anyone switch from Sonora XP to these new X plates...

Hardware suggestions - 350gsm full bleed duplex

You can get refurbished machines with a service contract. That is how we got into digital printing (were offset only). Was much cheaper, did the job reasonably well and let us figure some things out with what we wanted to do and did not want to do. Much smaller investment on a previous gen...

Hardware suggestions - 350gsm full bleed duplex

Might be, I do remember though when we bought our J75 300GSM was the max I think. Also when the Versant 80 came out I believe it could not duplex 350 gsm for some reason. I could be wrong on that, just remember that coming up when we were looking for a machine to replace our J75

Hardware suggestions - 350gsm full bleed duplex

No digital press prints bleed as far as I know. I would contact the big guys, Xerox, Canon and Ricoh and let their salespeople work for you. The Versant series is a solid printer from Xerox, not sure what the going rate for a used Versant 80 is, but they are solid machines and I believe can...

Fine cyan mist on Versant 3100 prints?

Maybe best to try and see if they really all do that. Ask for a print sample from a demo model and see if you see the same thing. If their demo machine does not do this then I would ask for a different tech to look into this and get it resolved. I am sure someone will speak up though who has...

General expectations for PDF file size

That is what we do. Will get a link to a massive PDF from the client, I will drop it in indesign take a look make sure everything is ok, re-save as a high quality PDF and 9/10 times it is small enough for me to send back through email.

    Best digital printer for cardstock

The Versant series from Xerox is solid and you get some perks being able to print envelopes on top of normal printing on card stocks and text weight stocks. We have a Versant 2100 that has been fantastic. It is a full width array which allows for internal colour calibration as well as...

    Presstek Freedom Pro Plates

Thats is where we were at. Had all the plastic covers stripped from it and were about to begin stripping any valuable metals from it for a scrap yard and junk the rest. Great timing with our tech who had a customer who needed parts so we got something out of it and they got a great deal on 2...

    Presstek Freedom Pro Plates

Looks us 2 years to sell a bunch of parts from our Presstek Dimension. The guy we bought our Screen from had a customer who could not afford a new CTP at the moment so needed some parts to extend the life of their Presstek a little bit longer. We did not get a whole lot for the parts but...

Need Advice & Reviews - Leasing a new light Production Press

our J75 was a nightmare. A year of fighting with Xerox had them take it back at full price and put that towards a heavy reduced price Versant 2100 which is a dream to run. We do all our finishing offline, other then fold and staple. Those types of jobs are generally too large to run digitally.

Need Advice & Reviews - Leasing a new light Production Press

+1 We deal directly with Xerox. We have had some troubles in the past but with some fighting it has always been resolved. The Versant series is a solid digital press and you get some added benefits like being able to run envelopes. The only time my 2100 jams doing #10 plain or window envelopes...

Should I split pages in coreldraw / illustrator or some other software?

That is how I do it. I do not have PitStop or any other software for that kind of thing. This works and does not take too much time though obviously the automated solutions are better.

Corel coming back to the Mac

Could be, or also a realization that they have an untapped market of creative people who prefer Mac. The price is not too steep for a full graphic suite even compared to Adobe's prices when buying the full CS outright. I am hoping all these "little" guys get enough traction with outright...

Corel coming back to the Mac

Just read this on CNET and it looks like Corel is taking a stab at the Mac market again after 20 years. Will definitely try out the demo out of curiosity but doubt I would ever adopt it for real work. Found Corel on PC worked way to differently then Adobe, made cross use frustrating...
