Understanding the Canon ImagePress Line and Rough Price Points

How much did the KM6501 retail for? How old was it when you sold it? How many clicks? $5,000 seems incredibly low for a $40,000 machine after 3 years. Salespeople at Canon pushed us toward a C700/C800 because we have low volume. In our attempts to negotiate with them they convinced us to save...

Understanding the Canon ImagePress Line and Rough Price Points

We are seriously considering a lease or more likely just purchasing an ImagePress C700 from Canon. One of the remaining concerns is simply whether, if something happens where we feel that we must sell it in 3 years -- how much will we be able to get for it. I'm trying to look at the comparable...

    DPM 2340 Electrical Requirements

We had an electrician come out yesterday to set us up with power for our new AB Dick DPM 2340. For now we are just going to plug into an existing 208V Single Phase power source we use for something else. The electrician was surprised at how the existing power source was wired and said not to...

Purchased used DPM 2340. No Media Cassette.

Thank you. Definitely would like that info if you can track it down. In the meantime we have gone back to the print shop that sold this to us (today is the last day for pickup of auction items before the lock the doors for good), and I've located 2 cassettes that were hanging out in an adjacent...

Purchased used DPM 2340. No Media Cassette.

We purchased a used DPM 2340 at auction sold as is and it appears to be missing the media cassette. I called Mark Andy to ask about plate material and whether the material will actually come inside of a cassette. She said no, and that the cassette costs $1,000 to replace. She mentioned that it...

    68 Page 5.5x8.5 Booklet

Depends what you mean by inexpensive but we got a Horizon MC80 with 4 towers (8 bins each), stitcher/folder and trimmer for 15k. We only run it with two of the towers and keep the others for backup/parts. If you do the math then obviously a 68 pager makes it a double pass since we only have 16...

Impose 5.5x8.5 saddle stitch booklet 2 up for 11 x 17 for digital

Right, and actually we do all bindery in house so we are in control of that. We only have one guy that does the offset and finishing work so I have pretty strong influence on how impose etc if a change would be advantageous. Also, good point re: K vs 4C. Fortunately almost all of our work is all...

Impose 5.5x8.5 saddle stitch booklet 2 up for 11 x 17 for digital

I'm attaching a pdf of how we currently impose inside pages for 5.5x8.5 saddlestitch booklets to be run 4UP on offset. I've done it this way for 10+ years. Should we use this for digital as well. (is this even industry standard for running on offset). I have no formal training (honestly just no...

Impose 5.5x8.5 saddle stitch booklet 2 up for 11 x 17 for digital

I have a workflow in place for imposing for saddle stitched 5.5 x 8.5 to be printed on letter size on digital. I also have a workflow in place for imposing saddle stitched 5.5 x 8.5 to be printed on 11x17 offset. What I don't have is a workflow for imposing for 11 x 17 on digital. All imposition...

Has anyone ever run an 8" width sheet on a Horizon SPF10 stitcher/folder?

We discovered today that the minimum sheet width for the fold portion of our Horizon SPF10 stitcher/folder is 8.3". We are in a position where we need to run 5" x 8" finish size booklets. The side guide right before the rollers won't move in past 8.3". We have tried some creative solutions but...

Difference between Production Printer and Office Copier?

Currently we are paying about $19k/year outsourcing color which seems pretty close to the break even point on bringing all of that color work in house but I don't think it's necessarily a home run.

Difference between Production Printer and Office Copier?

Here's my situation... I have to convince the money man that going into the production world is worth the much larger expense. He feels that he has yet to hear any argument that applies to our situation about why Production is the smart decision for us. I have yet to get any kind of answer that...

    Machine for Scoring

Anybody have advice on a piece of equipment that can be used for scoring 10/12pt coated stock for the purpose of running through a bookletmaker (to prevent the spine from cracking)? We currently have a Baum Ultrafold 714 but I've been told that it probably won't work well for what we want and...

How to: 5"x5" finish size saddle stitch booklet

I just got a new keurig and it came with a small (maybe 5"x5") saddle stitch booklet. How are these produced? We have a horizon collator booklet maker but I think the minimum finish size is 5 x 8 ish or something like that. Anybody have any knowledge if this. Just curious.

Difference between Production Printer and Office Copier?

Speed is a concern but you can get a fast office machine. And so the paper path is different, but what does that really buy me? I'm pretty much only running 20lb bond and 65lb cover. I don't need any finishing attachments.

Great thanks... As an aside, does 9p mean 9 pence which converts 14 cents usd?

Difference between Production Printer and Office Copier?

Question: Do you have any experience with Canon bringing in used inventory? Does Canon corporate sell used direct to end users? Or do they sell to 3rd party brokers who then sell to end users? Just curious what the process is.
