    running max imp

My thoughts are that on light stock it wont hurt anything, but winding up the impression on a heavy board could possibly hurt the cylinder bearings and put a lot of pressure on the driveline, leading to premature wear in gears etc...but thats pretty extreme.. I remember watchin an older printer...

Are small offset presses just not used anymore

There are certain areas where a good quality copier will nail a small offset every time... For example at a small offset shop i part time at, short run high quality print done on their Xerox700 was done with zero waste and minimal haedache, and this was a job i know i could have printed easily...

    How Many Make-Ready Sheets

Agreed.. sometimes more sometimes less... When we are running long run (500,000+ W/T), i will start it rolling at idle, having profiled before plating up, make some minor adjustments if required, check square + centred, then pull the trigger...50-100 sheets maybe and a couple of minutes tops. Of...

    Paper wrinkles

What press are you running? Im guessing the 640 refers to a Komori but cant be sure.. We get a bit of wrinkling on really light stocks on our 40" Lithrone, usually from the running wheels and brush wheels being a little too tight, but also from smoothers being fractionally too tight as well...

    Odd ink issue

Yeah i had noticed some differences in their ink and queried the supplier over it, some inconsistency in the tack tin to tin, but it has still given us no real problems... And yes, an issue that doesn't present with a solution can drive any printer nuts!! Hope you sort it out... for what its...

Any US firms doing 4-color offset?

On fridays pre press do single dot PMS seperations, and we print it dot by dot by dot... its time consuming but eliminates density issues that can be caused by running the imperfect filters of cmyk over each other... We also start the beers early friday :)

    Odd ink issue

Look at whats changed first... Im assuming you have been using the Hostmann for some time and its only recently that this problem has cropped up?? So what's changed recently? New plates? New Chemistry? Plate chemistry? Paper type?? Obviously something is amiss, and inks tend to be fairly stable...

    mistubishi grippers falling apart!!

I have had a gripper pad on the tumbler in a Rekord come astray and smash the second unit pretty badly (1 impression cylinder, 2 blanket and 1 plate cylinder scarred up badly) but that was after it had been round the clock several times... Sounds like a bad batch or 2 of delivery grippers or...

Do IR lamps help ink dry?

On the 40" i run we are regularily printing heavy solids with pretty full coverage and no IR driers, and the only time i have had set off issues is when i forgot to check the spray powder reservoir....ooops :) When doing shorter runs i will give it say 10mins before it gets clamped and turned in...

    Roller cleanning and hardness

We use white vinegar every once in a while to help with calcium buildup, in conjunction with a calcium rinse, as we have some issues with it. We tend to run an 890x627 velvet sheet sometimes for weeks on end, then go to a 720x1020 gloss and have watering issues about 3" in from edge of sheet...

    no image on paper

sounds simply like its not coming onto impression... do AB Dick's have an impression light or do they go onto impression automatically?? Perhaps cleaning the sensor may help?? sorry but i cant be of much help...f**k all experience on them not too many of them in Australia! There are plenty of...

Climategate - the global warming truth comes out

Correct me if i am wrong, but isn't the print industry relatively carbon neutral?? I mean we use a fair amount of energy and chemicals and the production of print is fairly carbon consumptive, but the growing of trees to feed our industry would surely go a fair way towards offsetting our carbon...

Ok... with regards to "V"... i also watched and loved it as a kid, much the same as Battlestar Gallactica, and hope that a remake of V will be as well done as the Battlestar remake, which IMHO, was brilliant :)

    PH on paper

Yeah we have a handfull of komori's and some smaller heidelbergs... I have noted some discolouration on the copper rollers, especially the rider in the dampening systems of the 2 most affected units (cyan/magenta) on the 40" i run... all rollers are in reasonable condition and set correctly...
