Gave An Employee A Raise , He Turned It Down ...WTF

His/Her current expectations don't forecast anything of the sort. This is simply someone who has some level of ambition, and isn't afraid to express it. The big question is, "Is this person worth what they are asking for?" He didn't refuse a directive or tell you your baby is ugly or anything...

Gave An Employee A Raise , He Turned It Down ...WTF

The guy sounds like a pretty savvy negotiator to me. In the end, you'll pay him what you feel he's worth, regardless of what others around him are making (it's none of their business, and discussing wages is a dismissable offense in many companies). If your perception of this employee's value...

Acrobat not converting crop marks to black?

Hey, Stephen. I tested on Acrobat XI and I could not convert registration color using Acrobat's Preflight tools.

Rampage v13 to XMF or Prinergy.

Lester, what I've seen of "hybrid" workflows is pretty crummy. Basically, the front-end kicks out a raster file that you can push into your digital front-end. The needs of digital and offset are so different that I see no advantage to combining the two. And, from what I've seen, you're still...

Rampage v13 to XMF or Prinergy.

Jay, I'm not knocking either of them, I just wondered what your criteria are. You might take a look at Screen, and some of the Harlequin based offerings like Xitron. I ran Trueflow for a number of years and liked it. By far the lowest support costs I've seen. And it used to have a trap editor -...

Is there a reason you have narrowed your focus to only those two systems?

    Gamut Checking

You can still download the entire ProfileMaker toolkit. It won't run on a Mac OS newer than 10.6.8, it will still run under Windows. ColorThink is a great way to visually examine why a color may not reproduce. I've uploaded an image of your target color plotted against the gamut of GRACoL_2006...

    Oris re-install: upgrade or no?

Sounds like an upgrade is in order, but make sure that your current printer is still supported. Printers that only have 32-bit drivers are being dropped by some RIP manufacturers. Those would be discontinued devices that are no longer supported by their own manufacturers.

Prinegy and Preps together, good or bad works

I believe Preps 6 did add the feature to display the front and back of a flat together. There's an opacity slider that allows you to look "through" the front.

    question for PDF specialist

I've been in situations in which JPEG compression has left noticeable artifacts in the printed product. It is my own preference to simply avoid it. Stephen hit upon why I don't like to use InDesign's color management for conversions. There are a couple of controls I feel are important, that...

    question for PDF specialist

Page 1 - you could turn off "Created Tagged PDF". This is for use with assistive devices. Page 2 - I'm not a fan of JPEG compression for print, but that's my opinion and experience. JPEG 2000 is not universally supported, but since your print vendor is recommending the setting, then they...

The Pantone values in the Pantone color manager are M2. I believe, but cannot absolutely confirm, yet, that the libraries licensed by Adobe are also M2.

    ''autoloading'' scanner

The pricing software may not be able to print directly to PDF, but it should print to file. Then you can convert those files to PDF. I'm guessing that this is on a Windows machine. Windows automatically builds a XPS printer - which is kinda' sorta' a Windows version of PDF.

Some ideas: Set all white elements to knockout Check that all fonts are properly embedded You could check for, and convert RGB elements Items within 1/16 inch of trim box that don't bleed Type too close to trim box If going out to a black and white printer, convert everything to grayscale Look...

Photoshop adjustments from Breathing Color to IJ Premium

You're underestimating the effect of the substrate. Changing the substrate MAY cause only negligible changes in output, or it may cause drastically different output. You talked about the images being "mastered for one medium." Are you manipulating the images to get the output you want? Also...
