    Word to Indesign

For the last several years (I can't remember how many), Word has been XML "under the hood". If this is something you do routinely, you could set up paragraph and character styles that correspond to the XML tags that are present in the Word document. Then the text sort of formats itself. You...

Dot gain of less than 3% how do you color manage

Color management practices will not change for TVI conditions. However, as has been suggested, you need to decide if this is a condition you want to profile. It's outside of the usual parameters.

    Need feedback from other printshops...

At 300 lpi, someone is opening it for you. 20 micron stochastic really isn't that tough. You would have the same challenges you would have with 300 lpi.

Can I stroke text the following way for trapping?

It's not going to matter. You're still going to have PANTONE 109 and cyan. Take a look at your separations to get a better idea.

Can I stroke text the following way for trapping?

There is no trapping to this. You can spread one, or the other color back, but that will give you an outline. The outline would be either PANTONE 109 or cyan. On a side note, this will be difficult, if not impossible, to proof accurately - that includes how it looks on your monitor.

    Profile management

Sorry, Al. The assumption here is that you are working in InDesign in CMYK. Native elements would be in CMYK or spot. "Non-CMYK elements" is referring to placed elements like an illy file built in RGB or a Lab PSD.

    Profile management

Convert to destination (preserve numbers) is a very confusing option. What happens is: non-CMYK elements are converted to the colorspace described by the destination profile native InDesign elements are left alone CMYK elements tagged with an ICC profile that differs from the destination...

Flexo Screen Angle for Single Color

I would run a single color job at 45 degrees. That will give you cleaner looking edges on screened elements. Imagine a screened rectangle. The sides will appear to have a "wobble" to them if screened at any angle but 90 (0) or 45.

Help! Opinion needed to buy the first auto scanner (techkon)

PressSIGN is a nicely put together software package. Along with giving you ink key feedback like any press console, it will score each sheet read, allow you to generate curves for plating, and a bunch of other stuff. It would be worth setting up some training to maximize on your investment.

    PDF to Illustrator

Files are being manipulated all the time. There are last minute tweaks, re-separations for ink optimization, and little things that people catch (like the wrong date on a folio, or the black and white ad that is 4-color gray). In your case, you said there is the need for a dieline. Would it work...

Measuring a flexo plate with Spectroeye

There you go. Keep in mind that as you change the n-factor, you change the result of your readings. You may have to experiment, or contact your plate vendor, to find the "right" n-factor.

Measuring a flexo plate with Spectroeye

Look up the Yule-Nielsen formula. It tries to account for the scattering of light. Does the manual recommend an "n-factor"?

    Proof Verifier

PressSIGN Pro will work with the EasyTrax. Another product you could consider is MeasureColor. You could also look at ColorSciences, though we don't sell that one. The densitometric device isn't going to get you where you want to be.

How to assure consistent color when exporting to PDF?

If you have an iPad, our digital pub, Out of Chaos, can be downloaded from the App Store. There's an article that goes through all of the PDF export settings for InDesign - what they mean and what they do.

When would you want to flatten transparency in a PDF?

Get yourself a copy of PitStop Pro and you can convert the text to outlines without flattening the PDF. If you're running a RIP with the APPE, then you wouldn't want/need to flatten at all unless you ran into something like Dan cited. Toronar, you say you might want flatten to make use of...
