Adobe Distiller.. i CANNOT find this program!!!

Re: Adobe Distiller.. i CANNOT find this program!!! To be fair, you do have some control using a quartz filter, but even that is pretty limited. Is pstopdf just the command line name for adobe normalizer? I do like the fact that you can put pstopdf options into a script. I tried, very...

    InD text tool

Re: InD text tool Yes, but it doesn't work like any other program (not just quark). The baseline line in every program I know does not begin affecting text on the line below until it touches the top of that line. In InD it affects that text as soon as you touch the baseline. I am getting used...

    Acrobat 8 and Printing

Re: Acrobat 8 and Printing I am sure it is great, but I guess this means that we are never going to get fixes for Acrobat 8 (If you are wondering what is wrong with acrobat 8, see about 9 other threads here dealing with that topic). New features are great and something worth paying for, but...

Adobe Distiller.. i CANNOT find this program!!!

Re: Adobe Distiller.. i CANNOT find this program!!! Yeah and if you have a mac, then you have ghostscript already (or maybe it is another unix postscript converter program, but I think it is ghostscript.) You don't have all the Distiller options and RGB is the default, but it gets you a PDF.

    InD text tool

Re: InD text tool It is every file and all text (whether set text or new text, old documents or fresh documents). I checked the baseline shift (that was my first reaction) and no problems there. I am using InD CS3 on mac os 10.4.11. I haven't added or taken away any fonts recently. It has done...

    InD text tool

My company is finally making the switch to InDesign, which is fantastic to say the least. However, there is one thing about InD that is driving me nuts and I have not heard anyone else raise this issue, which is making me think that I am missing something here. When I want to put my cursor on a...

    Acrobat 8 and Printing

Re: Acrobat 8 and Printing Shouldn't this be Acrobat 8.2? Instead of an upgrade, we get to pay $159. I am guessing the only things relevant to print production in Acrobat 9 are "improved" (which should say fixed) print production tools. Adobe is basically saying to print people, "hey, you want...

    PC VS Mac Platforms

Re: PC VS Mac Platforms Most of the time you can find out which os was used by checking the metadata. Check "file info" under the file menu in InD, PS or Illy. If that doesn't tell you, drag the file onto a text editor and you can most of the time find the os and software used there. While I...

    Acrobat 8 UI

Re: Acrobat 8 UI Had to come back to this one. I was just working in Quark 6 and discovered that if you have two windows open at the same time, you can scroll through either one no matter which window has the focus. So, come on Adobe. Give us scrolling while the sep preview window has the...

    photoshop plugin?

Re: photoshop plugin? Drop shadows in Photoshop can be misleading. The best thing is to do it in InDesign if you can, but another thing that I find sometimes necessary is to flaten the photoshop document. I know it is great to maintain transparency and whatnot, but sometimes results are not as...

    Automated ad layout system

I have a question for the publishers out there. What dummying system do you use? Currently we dummy ads manually. I know there are software solutions that streamline the process and will generate Quark or InDesign pages with the ads already on them. I am curious what other publishers are using...

    High Resolution for Print

Re: High Resolution for Print Russell, If you want the easiest solution and you are sending them PDF's, ask them for their Distiller settings. Create your art at two times the line screen and use the Distiller settings they send you to make the PDF. If you want to understand why or get a...

Color Builds for Body Copy and small print.

Re: Color Builds for Body Copy and small print. Ok, that is what I had thought. We generally try to follow the SNAP specs here. Out of curiosity, how do you handle the CRAP colors? When I get an ad with build black text that has already been rasterized, I find I can fix it by pulling into...

    Acrobat 8 UI

Re: Acrobat 8 UI Yeah, you are right Joe. The sep preview is f*ck*n annoying. That is what I was saying. If Finder can allow you to scroll one window while another one has the focus, then why can't Acrobat. How, as Adobe has said, is this an Apple requirement when the Finder doesn't adhere to...

    PDF Letterhead

Re: PDF Letterhead Yes, this is true, but what I have here is an application that prints out data onto a format. The format is made in Quark and the user prints out multiple pages then loads the pages in the printer and prints data onto the pages. The application is custom and automates this...

    Acrobat 8 UI

Re: Acrobat 8 UI No, I know it lags. That is def a problem. I was just saying that, at least on my comp, I don't have to click twice. When another window has the focus, I can still move my mouse over a tool and it will bevel and change color. I did not say that it is fast by any stretch of the...

Color Builds for Body Copy and small print.

Re: Color Builds for Body Copy and small print. Wow. Would you say this even with newsprint. I'm not a printer, but it seems that registering 10 point, four color body text would be next to impossible. Is this not the case? Dan R.
