    Esko Upgrade Debacle

So I would like to update this post. Esko, realizing my frustration on understanding the pricing, performed fantastic customer service and not only explained the situation, quote and terminology, but had a specialist fly out and meet with me to not only fully explain but explore advantageous...

Need to recruit an Esko/Applescript/Mac guru for a position

Hey guys, can you point me in the right direction, or contact me if you know of someone, I have a position open for a Esko AE / Applescript / Mac support person. Without giving away to much info, EOE reasons, relocation and a big company are involved. No joy on my "help wanted" ads online, nor...

Recommendations for a High End Dot Proofer

We currently use Esko AE/FlexRip, GMG and Epson and are expanding. I am upgrading to latest GMG with 2 large format Epson printers to print DotProofs. I am wondering if getting a higher end Proofing system such as the Kodak Approval would bring any further advantages to the DotProofing that...

Why should I print with Dot Gain?

I am now entrenched in the G7 system. So I got that. But remembering 15 years ago I fingerprinted a print company to print linear, in other words my curves compensated for Dot gain so the finished print was 50%=50% etc. (rightly or wrongly) We printed fantastic stuff with near color accuracy. So...

Has anyone heard of cleaning numbers to make smaller files?

Please argue back that eMail documents with an EVEN number of characters are easier for the computer to compress and send than eMails with a ODD number of characters. This will decrease your bandwidth and inbox usage. They do seem gullible.

    For the love of god

Technically correct but this technical talk isn't going to help him solve his 'Designer' issues. Currently in CS6, which your designers are probably using as their color Bible, 485C is 100m 100y (with the right settings). I usually find arguing with the design department about their art colors...

    For the love of god

Pantone have indeed changed their swatches, TWICE since your trusty book came out! In 2000 pantone changed the value of 485C from 100m, 91y to 95m, 100y. Then again in the new Pantone plus series (2011?) 485C was changed once again to 100m 100y. (edit: the new pantone plus is LAB based and the...

G7 - Solids Are Good - Overprints Are Not

Long time Flexo person. Why would Gordo's answers not be applicable to Flexo? I am scratching my head here. Exchange 'Blanket' for cyrel or appropriate photo-polymer material and the other suggestions are all valid as written.

    G-Seven Calc v2.1

Steve, I did it completely on my own time. When I put in for G7 Training, it was denied because the G7 Master Printing company (please dont laugh to hard here) saw no benefit from it, so I did that on my own pocket as well. So now G7 Expert that is on MY resume, and this Excel spreadsheet is...

Calcutate dot gain based upon readings with stochastic screen

See this is why I like to read Gordo's posts! I know just enough to be extremely dangerous in a print shop!

    Best Prepress Workflow

If you just won Lotto, have a good look at Esko Automation Engine with all the packages and modules. They have a complete system and I am transitioning to their base package. The whole thing is 'Bill Gates' type money though. Another smaller system is Xante Rip Symphony system which I have used...

Transitioning from Nexus10.1 to Automation Engine

We are about to transition from Nexus 10.1 to Automation Engine. I guess transition from is incorrect as AE is an addition to, and not replacement. I was wondering if anyone has completed this process and would offer hints, or comments on what to watch out for, pitfalls, differences. Did you...

    Creative Cloud thoughts

I think the software industry today, especially adobe with its suite, are very Application centric. By which I mean, you open an application and do 'Drawing' to a document. If you want to do 'Typing' you open another application and a corresponding document. I always hoped we would move to a...

    Onyx

We are using both Efi and Onyx, but on separate printers. we are about to test the Oyx Thrive system as a central server for all our printers (replacing the EFI) so will let you know. From what I have seen so far in our tests, the Onyx has more bells and whistles and we can do alot more color...

Calcutate dot gain based upon readings with stochastic screen

Dot Gain is a math formula and is based on Density. Since AM and FM are both based on a dot shape and ink denisity there should be no difference. This website has the Murray-Davis formula. Welcome to Bruce Lindbloom's Web Site BUT In agreement to Gordo, who I don't know but serious respect...

    G-Seven Calc v2.1

I am not in this for profit. Curve3 costs about $2500. This is free and gets you the same place. Just not with the bells and whistles. But then I guess a Fangraph gets you there as well. :) Anyways as I said, I am posting this for those that can't afford, or dont want to pay the $2000+ for a...

    G-Seven Calc v2.1

G-Seven Calc v2.1 by KewlBigDan THIS SYSTEM IS NOT CERTIFIED BY IDEALLIANCE and will never be. Seriously $7000?? This Excel Document is FREE. You must of course own the Excel (2007/2010) application. I am not sure it works on MACs, other Excel versions or other Excel document emulators. I...
