    Can you explain this cartoon?

He discovers his shadow and the angle the shadow is at is looking up, so he looks up to see what it's looking at?

    Newbie & Imposing

We looked at quite imposing and imposition studio. We ended up going with imposition studio because it was a bit cheaper and did everything we needed it to do. I've been happy with it so far. Now that I have a lot of templates set up that I use regularly, most jobs I can select the template...

Baumfolder 520 Changing Belt - Help!

I have a baumfolder 420 that I had to replace a belt on our 16 page section earlier in the year. It looks like the register table is similar to yours. If you take off some covers and bolts, you should be able to lift out the entire register table and slip the register belts on and off. I...

NCR work done Digital or Offset?

We do a mix of digital and offset for ncr work. Either way we run it through our Heidelberg windmill for perforating, and usually for crash numbering because we use red ink. Sheets coming off the digital press feed a little different if they're a bit wavy, but once you're used to it it's no...

Xante Illumina Printing from a Mac

I usually print from a pdf in acrobat. In page setup in the bottom left corner of the print menu, I have a custom size setup. 9.5" width and 4.13 height, zeros for all the non printable areas. Hope that helps, that's a weird problem to have. If you go into the printer features settings under...

    Where your jobs come from?

We're a small shop, 4 total employees for a newspaper and commercial print. It's heading that direction for us too, probably get 35% straight from the customer and the rest is brokered to us. When press operators at other newspapers in the area retire, they usually decide to send the work out...

Paying for Machine that's out of service....

Our salesman once offered to help us get reimbursed for what we were paying for service on the machine, but not the lease. When that happened it was because it took the techs about a week to get out here to take a look at the machine. Might be something worth asking about.

    Splotchy Blacks -- Any Ideas?

I agree with Keith. I have two presses that I run, a ryobi 2800 which is one of the duplicators he's talking about, and a heidelberg kord. If I ran that job on the ryobi, I would have a pretty tough time and would expect the quality to turn out like it did in your picture. On the kord, the...

    Removing/Editing

On the C75, we've been able to delete them from manual adjustment screen instead of automatic adjustment.

Screening / imagesetter / press problem?

Is it a problem you've had with just that ink, or just head #2? I've had really old ink do something similar for me, some new ink might be worth a shot. If the ink and plate is fine, I'd check the roller pressure to the plate and the condition of the rollers.

    Fusion Pro and intelligent barcode

It looks like on page 22 of the user guide it shows you how to save the list as a csv or excel file with the intelligent mail barcode added to your list. Then when you put it in your address block in fusion pro, you just need to use one of the USPSIMB fonts.

    New Xanté Ilumina

We bought our Ilumina in 2009, so it's getting up there in age. We used to try to print small full color orders on it before we got our C75. Color consistency is probably the biggest complaint I've had with it. The print quality goes as the drums wear down and the color gets worse as well. You...

    Xante Ilumina Registration

I'm having problems with an older Xante Ilumina getting cmyk in register. I was wondering if anyone knows how to adjust the registration for each color individually side to side. I can adjust them towards the top and bottom of the sheet using "registration fine adjustment", but haven't been able...

    Copy printing pricing

We use Franklin Estimating Systems for all our pricing. They have a section for digital print and copy we use as a guide and take a percentage off the price to keep us competitive locally.

    Original Heidelberger Tiegel

We still use one for perforating, scoring, and numbering. Been here about 60 years and only broken down twice in that time, both times because the operator forgot to keep it oiled.

2 Up Direct to Plate System

We bought one of these recently and have been happy with it. It makes paper plates and will make film for when we need to use a metal plate. Only goes up to 120 LPI though. http://www.mitsubishiimaging.com/thermal-digiplate-system.html

    Baum 714 Scoring-Help Please

I have an older model, but this manual helped me with scoring and perforating. I use a rubber collar when I'm scoring for a right angle fold, and a scoring collar on each side of the scoring blade when I'm scoring only. It gives you a little more control over how heavy of a score it leaves...
