Would you wear a typographic T-shirt like this?

Somebody managed to make a movie about Helvetica so I suppose there is a market out there for it. I would not guess that it is very large, but you never know.

If it's a true spectrodensitometer, then it has the capabilities to read both ink density values as well as LAB values.

    Banding Issue on Ryobi 524GX

At least your supplier was willing to help you. In a similar situation at my former plant, we were always told it was an operator error. We had a blanket/roller wash solvent that was supposed to be water miscible. However, if any water got into the solvent, portions of the mixture would ball up...

    A bit of fun?

Yeah, that can be a play on words, but I know a lot of bars have a room in the back for playing cards.

    A bit of fun?

Hmm Hmm So I go on the Internet looking for these mysterious bicycles and I come up with this link: http://image3.proxy.bikerornot.com/usrimg/18333.jpg But they don't sell bicycles or motorcycles, just t-shirts.

    A bit of fun?

I'm guessing that the graphic is only a portion of the proposed ad. And Ox, did they sell many bikes?

WARNING - Another Nigerian Printing Scam

I dunno, you can probably find instances where the western powers have enabled corrupt governments and warlords to stay in power because it meant we could have access to the natural resources there. Things such as oil, gold, platinum and diamonds.

Have you checked to make sure there aren't any lowspots on your cylinders? Are you running enough back pressure?

    Offset Press Blankets

Are you a manager, supervisor or operator? What is your company looking for? Is it more durability? Better dot gains? Better ink transfers? How is the test set up? Are you going to run similar forms with comparable stock on both sets of blankets? For how many impressions? That was something...

    Quad/Graphics to Acquire Worldcolor

I hope so, but I don't think so. I'm sure that we'll be hearing about synergies and cost savings and other terms like that and soon we'll hear about plant closings and people losing their jobs. That's the nature of pretty much all mergers and buyouts, not just in the printing industry.

    how's business

I'm not the moderator and neither is OutSourceD. But with that being stated, most folks posting here aren't including links back to a commercial web site so it certainly looks like an ad for your business. I don't have a beef with it, but it is what it is.

    How Many Impressions

I was kind of curious what kind of mileage people are getting out of their presses these days. My old shop had two Heidelberg CD102's that were installed in the spring of 1993. At the time that production ended in our plant in June of 2009, both machines had over 600,000,000 impressions each. My...

    Kba 104-8 sw4 (1997) double

I never worked on that particular press so I can't get into specifics, but I would check for wear in the cam as well as checking the cam followers. If the bearing gets frozen, it can grind the cam and change your timing.

    How Many Make-Ready Sheets

Preset Preset When you are saying that you are without ink preset, how are you setting the fountains? Are you using a console and making profiles based on the coverage on the individual plates? Or are you manually adjusting the individual keys and judging ink film thickness on the fountain or...

    Odd ink issue

It seems to me that it has to be an ink problem if other inks run fine with the same chemistry that won't work for this other ink. Can the ink rep provide you with a fountain solution that will work with his ink that won't cost you more money or cause other problems such as disposal, etc.? In...

    Want to relocate!

Strange coincidence Strange coincidence So I'm looking through the job listings this morning and there is a company out there looking for someone who can do the following: Must be able to do both hand/manual feed on a letterpress as well as autofeed. Also must be able to run a 5/C 28" offset...

Climategate - the global warming truth comes out

Trees Trees My understanding is that while North America and Europe are doing a pretty good job of reforestation, there are great swaths of the equatorial rain forests that are being destroyed every day for either agriculture, industry or urban growth. Those trees aren't being replaced.

    stories/anecdotes

Birds Birds This happened 30 years ago, before everyone got worried about cleanliness levels and keeping bugs out of the plant. We had an old 77" Miehle and it had no guards over the rollers. One day a sparrow or a robin flew right into the ink train. The operator knew he had a problem when he...

    stories/anecdotes

Had one guy at my work place working on a Roland 800. He had the roller guard up while washing up the unit. He used to wear button up shirts with long tails hanging out. Somehow he got his shirttail caught in rollers, tore his shirt right off. One time we had an air leak or water leak on a...
