I wonder if you could take the rollers out of a set of dummy drums, so it detects drums in place but would give you another 1/2" of clearance?

All of these posts miss the point... Press manufactures are purely reactive to the market, offset is not dying because they cannot engineer faster more efficient presses, it is dying because the market has fundamentally changed. 10 years ago when I would try to push digital color on customers...

Looking at a true flatbed and like the table height and pin system and being able to use jigs with many smaller pieces, but it would be nice to be able to run rolls, who has strong opinions for one system over the other?

Take the cover off and clean gears and wheels, one of the wheels is connected to a potentiometer that is what keeps count of the distance traveled, techon has a remanufacture process if it needs service, I know in states they will give you a loaner when you send it off, change out ribbon cable...

you could prob find someone almost giving away brisque servers, CGS has some shooter boxes that will bypass brisque, but would be VERY expensive

i have only seen linen rollers for laminators, you see it a lot with book covers, but as other posters have mentioned you can get same effect with some uv coaters that have texture rollers, but lamination will give you more abrasion resistance...

some laminators have a linen roller, it is a pain to swap out so you will be hit with a setup charge, binderies that do a lot of book covers should have one...

for so few plates I would look for a used 16 diode screen 4300, lots around as people upgraded to 32's, cheap and will last forever doing 3000 a year (we do 1500 a month on one, and other then cleaning optics never have service on it)

You know I really don't see the problem with press chemistry, because it is not a whole lot of volume and does not generate a whole lot of waste streams, for mid size commercial we use 5 gal of A230 press wash a month, maybe 2 cubes of fount and 2 gal of sub, and a couple drums of AQ, and we...

also, versions of ID and quark will handle those small dots different, we have had trouble with .5% sometimes rounding up and sometimes rounding down, holding 1% dot can sometimes be more of a curse then a badge of honor, if you ever have a real flat tint like 2C, 2M, 2Y, 5k you may get...

maybe you mean uni vs bi directional?, bi is faster, but you have to align dots in the two directions, so very small knocked out graphics can be hard to keep registered

a 1% dot is a tricky beast, you could be running same ink, same fount, same everything and hold it one month and drop it next month, everything may be the same, but water roller adjustment, age of chemistry in processor, glaze on blankets, batch of inks, almost anything could keep you from...

paper type and thickness adjustments do not seem to make better or worse, do these not change pressure of fuser? I'm not saying it is unsellable, but if I can minimize or mitigate (not eliminate) then I would like to try.
