    Making the Leap

Ron, Kim is correct. You have many options from reconditioned equipment to new that will fit into your price range. You need to provide more information on the type of work you are doing, run length, do you want to keep and reuse the plates, what is your budget for consumables........... On...

    AGFA Taipan 1.1 Software

Go to Xitron.com for a Harlequin RIP. They will be able to give you information on a dealer in your area. It is available for Mac or PC although I believe the Mac version is a little more.

    Who's doing film imagesetting?

roger, Not that it matters much these days, but where are you located? It will help in giving you information for someone who is at least in your region.

    ripit speedsetter 300x1 film type?

That may be for now, but even as a dealer it is hard to get our hands on it on the film side. Mitsubishi still makes it for Poly, but I would not purchase a machine for film that uses it. If you have to use film, get a machine that uses the Red Light film. If cost is an issue for the machine...

Apogee Moving from 2.5 to 6

Kyle is correct. Provided you have Printdrive, you should be able to use any workflow that can output a one bit tiff. Even just a new Harlequin RIP will do that for you. Look at the products offered from Xitron. They have a full range of products that are very good with our breaking the bank.

My apologies to Santo. Thanks for the correction Vlad, I answered this one with to much hast and not enough thought.

You have many other options for a RIP / WorkFlow. What CTP do you have?

    ripit speedsetter 300x1 film type?

Good luck finding a good supplier for the IR material. This is the original technology that was used when the manufacturers changed from gas lasers to diodes and the material is very difficult to get. I'm fairly certain that none of the manufacturers are making it anymore so what you get if...

    help! plates too long

If the Page Setup is correct in the Configure Device area, the calibration for the Genesis is off and has to be adjusted.

    Mitsubishi Help

I'm always amazed at the total lack of common sense of some people, usually the pressman who has the perfect press and nothing ever is wrong with it..... Are the spots really on the plate, or does it just appear that way? When in the run does this issue appear? What happens if they clean the...

    Avantra OLP30 Electrical Drawings

Santos, I have to ask how you know the heater and sensors are ok. I will assume that you swapped them out with the Fixer.. Maxon you are very incorrect. If all seems to be working except the Dev. heater it is a good probability the relay on the Power Board is bad. This is a replaceable...

    Avantra 25 Resolution Change

Run the internal exposure test at 3600 dpi increments of 5. Before running the test set an exposure that is about 100 less than you have for 2400, this will be a good place to start. Using a densitometer, measure the Black square for 4.00 plus and then the 50% square looking for 50%. Don't get...

    error 033

It sounds like the Supply Cassette motor for B may be the issue. It may not even be bad, they seem to sometimes start to come loose on the inside and the screws need to be tightened down. Also, you may want to try changing supply cassettes is you have not already done so to make sure the...

    CTP for Small Press?

The Mako CTP is a good solution but to clarify, the room does not have to be dark with minimal yellow light. The filters that are used on the lights are almost as bright as white light, they just filter out the waves that will expose the plate. It is manual feed, but for a small shop this...

    error 033

Pam, I'm fairly certain the the issue is not corrupt parameters in the DEC. Registration issues are almost always a mechanical issue if it is happening on 1 cassette and not the other. .5cm is quit a bit off on the registration, and when you say distortion film, in which direction are you...

Need opinions on workflow & Rip

All good advice. Be careful of the 3GB switch if you are using WinXP Pro. It is included with Service Pac 3 native so if you edit to add the switch you will completely lock up the PC. The GPS upgrade with Navigator will give you what you need in terms of ripping speed / performance as well as...

    Problem ripping

Shazam hit it right on the head although he is using the Navigator RIP, (Harlequin) and Gumby is using the Xenith RIP, (Adobe) based off of the dollars you are quoting. Both are very good RIPs and you will not have problems if installed on the right platform.

    Problem ripping

Gumby, Good to see you got your file out. Remember that even with the advancements of today's RIPs, somethings may require a workaround. Also I'm curious about the PC the RIP is running on. If it were set up properly and had the horsepower I think you would see a significant difference.

what to buy for a low volume ctp platemaker

Good technical explanation Steve. To put it in simple terms, the Poly Plates run through the AccuSet just like your film does with the exception of being negative-right reading. The silver image is used for the ink transfer. We can provide the service of the setup and calibration for you...

    Help with the old Jaws

You can still purchase an upgraded RIP for the Genesis from Mitsubishi. Check with a local vendor and if none will help you, I can. You can contact me directly or a private message on this site.
