    Versant 4100 Vs Ricoh 7210

Experiences like this really leave me scratching my head. Our 7210s have been able to print on virtually anything we throw at them except Tyvek. We just finished a 10,000 run of 24pt Tango C1S and the registration was perfect for something that is thicker than the machine is specced to run. We...

    Acrobat SO SLOW...

I have used 600 dpi in the past and it still looked fine in my eyes.

    Versant 180 Envelope Color Nightmare

Another print shop near us has been sending jobs over to us because they are having a similar issue on their V80. The techs say they have run out of solutions. They are pretty frustrated.

    Acrobat SO SLOW...

One way we have "fixed" this issue is to simply rasterize the page. I hate doing that as I know it isn't ideal, but it works.

    Acrobat SO SLOW...

I have been using the FusionPro with Acrobat 64-bit for several months. Haven't had any issues with it so far, unless it is contributing to the delays and sluggishness.

    Acrobat SO SLOW...

This was designed by an ad agency used for several of their properties in this area based on the East Coast. They are a pleasure to deal with and always very punctual in getting us art, but I have long felt that their files were overly complex.

    Acrobat SO SLOW...

Dov, I greatly appreciate your willingness to take a look at the file. Our client is obsessively concerned with security, but they approved my sharing it with someone for troubleshooting purposes. I private messaged you a Dropbox link. This is a variable data mailing that has tens of thousands...

    Acrobat SO SLOW...

Dov, I was going from memory and you are correct on the X-4 format. I tried your suggestions, but they didn't seem to help with speed. I am attaching a file showing the document space usage. Not sure if that helps. The redraws are painfully slow. I have a 3060 nVidia GPU. Ripping time isn't...

    Gloss Paper is GONE...

Around January of 2023 our suppliers got most of the paper back in stock and things have been close to normal ever since. Even had some prices go down.

    Acrobat SO SLOW...

I spend hours daily using Acrobat with Pitstop Pro and FusionPro to work on customer-supplied PDFs and add variable data elements for mailings. Most of the time Acrobat works pretty well, but it does crash a few times per week for no apparent reason. Then we get to the more complicated files...

Do I have to laminate both sides for folds

Yep. The link describes it as I have learned it. Scoring leaves a white line at the fold whereas creasing makes a beautiful fold without cracks or white showing through the ink.

The KM costs 5% more, but is there really a difference or just personal preference? C5300s or C4070

Not an answer to your question, but we have two 72xx Ricohs and the techs have told me more than once that the 5300 is a big downgrade from the 72xx machines and that you are better off getting stripped down 7200 than a good 5300. Just wanted to pass this along.

Do I have to laminate both sides for folds

We always crease and never score. We did some menus recently on 9pt matte cover and then laminated both sides with 3mil lamination. Before folding, we creased using matrix on our Cylinder and it looked fantastic and laid very flat.

    Networking New Shop/Need assistance!

I have done all of our networking for the past 30 years, but would agree that you might be ahead to get someone. There are so many people out there doing it, that you can get someone for for very little money to get you set up. I used to do it on the side and would charge $20/hr and know lots of...

blue print problems on my brother (home) inkjet

We had an Epson 9600 that had clogged ink tubes and a clogged print head. I bought some print head cleaning solution online, that smelled very similar to Windex, and used a soaked paper towel to clean the print head. Then I used a syringe to flush out the ink tubes. It worked great for years...

Ricoh vs Cannon vs Xerox Quality...

To elaborate, it is any colored tint block on the page. Defects are most noticeable when you have a consistent background screen, such as a tint behind some type that is grey. Our Xerox 2100 never was able to print a clean black screen. They even tried putting a flywheel on it that hooked to the...

What to get after Xerox Versant 3100, what is in same class or a bit better?

The screens are cleaner than our V2100 ever were. The 7210x is a fantastic machine. It is a little slower than the V3100, but you more than make up for it by not having to calibrate, tweak position on the sheet, and wait for service. Another printer in town got the Iridesse and even it doesn't...

    Iridesse to Ricoh/Konica

We came from a V2100 and C75 to two 7210x machines. We run #10 envelopes without opening the flaps. Some will refold, but Sayer Brook brand run perfectly. As mentioned above, they are better in almost every respect. The only think I will say the V2100 was better at was the raw speed, but with...

MGX 10 mil and 15 mil Synthetic Paper and Ricoh 7210

We order ours from a company called Press Sense and they always ask if we want it coated or un-coated for digital printing. The coated is almost twice the price. We have been running the un-coated for ages and it seem to work well. We just set our 7210 to synthetic paper and turn up the fuser...

    QuarkXpress...

We have thousands of old files created in Quark that we use day in and day out, but it is only used for old files and new typesetting done by a specific employee. Our biggest clients send in file in Indesign and that is what I have used for decades. I decided to load Quark 2023 on my machine as...
