We regularly run jobs on 100gsm silk on our C8000 without any problems. I wouldn't consider 90gsm, even if it was available in the right grades: the stock we use as standard only goes down to 100gsm, some ranges don't go below 115gsm.

Talk to a local digital printer. You may well find it cheaper and easier to get the jobs printed for you, rather than doing it yourself. Even if you can find something lower than £4000, perhaps an OKI, then the consumable prices are probably going to come as a shock.

I believe that KM, at least in Europe, have a software suite called PrintGroove. I seem to recall that one of the modules is intended to handle queues for multiple print engines.

It was our experience with a Fiery driven KM6500 that tray selection "Auto" was not a good idea. Even with all the parameters set correctly, "Auto" more often than not generated a paper mismatch error. The real answer is to use the Fiery's Paper Catalog.
