Renaming links within the Links palette (InDesign)?

I'm not quite following you. I've run some tests with files accessing links from my local drive and file accessing links from a server. In both cases, the file is renamed before packaging. Or at least it appears to be in the Finder.

Renaming links within the Links palette (InDesign)?

Thanks for this! Looks like Tomaxxi's script is exactly what I was looking for. It allows you to remame within InDesign, without having to rename all links. You can cherry pick.

Renaming links within the Links palette (InDesign)?

Is there a plug-in available that would allow you to rename links within the Links palette? This would need to also rename the link within the finder as well. I’ve used renaming scripts before, but I would like more control over the naming protocol than I have had with scripts. For example, a...

    Pantone Premium Metallics

I was just told by a colleague that the Pantone Premium Metallic inks are far more expensive than the standard Pantone Metallics. And that our print vendors, both domestic and foreign, would rather mix special inks than use the Premium inks. The only difference (that i see) is the Pantone...

Quark 9: Exporting a PDF with DCS links, doable?

I was pressed for time and had to get these files half-way across the globe by this morning, so I went with the 2 separate PDFs: one for Process Black, and one for the Pantone. Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely look into DCS Merger.

Quark 9: Exporting a PDF with DCS links, doable?

I have a very old backlist title that is switching to a new print vendor. The 2/c interior (originated in Q4) is now in Q9 and contains DCS links (Grayscale + Spot). I've run through all the export color options (As-Is, Composite CMYK + Spot), neither of which will give me what I want, which is...

How QuarkXPress became a mere afterthought in publishing

Sure, printing a .PS and distilling will work, but it would be nice to be able to just export - less steps involved.

"Somerville MA publisher finds big success"

This is a nice feature on the publishing house I work for. We had a tremendous showing at the recent ALA awards which prompted this feature. Thought it was worth sharing as it speaks well to the importance of the printed book. Candlewick Press in Somerville on a roll with Newbery Medal win and...

How QuarkXPress became a mere afterthought in publishing

Years ago we were a Quark house. We made the switch to ID around 2007. We still use Quark (v9) for backlist reprints and such. One thing that Quark has that I really wish ID had is the ability to export seps to PDF. We are often needing to supply Text Black PDFs which will include text (of...

RIP problems with fake small caps in ID?

Totally agree, and it's not often that we use them. Thanks for your response.

RIP problems with fake small caps in ID?

Has anyone had any RIP/Print issues with fake small caps used in InDesign (any version)? Years ago (in CS4) we received a digital proof in which all of the fake small caps had been substituted out for a different font. Since then we have always encouraged our designers not to use the fake small...

    UPC verification

My question is slightly off topic, but not far off. Can anyone recommend any documentation regarding acceptable colors for barcode bars and acceptable background colors? Our warehouse/distributor strongly prefers black bars on white backgrounds. This never sits well with designers. Generally...

How do you prevent Acrobat X from compressing imagery?

Thanks for the tip. I tried the same process in X and it didn't work. Will look into upgrading to XI.

More Acrobat frustration - I'm starting to sound like a broken record.

    Thanks for the confirmation, Leonardr.

Leonardr, I've tested this again, with both Acrobat x and Acrobat 9. Steps are: Acrobat X Tools - Pages - Replace Pages Acrobat 9 Document - Replace Pages With both versions, all images throughout the document are compressed upon saving.

Yes, it was Tools - Pages - Replace Pages. Both PDFs (the original, and the replacement page) were created the same way (Exported from ID), if that matters.

It's not as much of it being a problem, as it is trying to understand how Acrobat decides when to compress and when to leave alone. If you read my examples, you'll see certain tasks leave images as-is, other tasks compress images. Just trying to get a full understanding of this.

More Acrobat frustration - I'm starting to sound like a broken record.

I recently had a thread about images being compressed within Acrobat. http://printplanet.com/forums/adobe/32010-how-do-you-prevent-acrobat-x-compressing-imagery Since then, I've accepted the fact that Acrobat is going to compress my images when I save and there is nothing I can do about it...

Side by side pages, is 10 the max?

No. If I was able to have 13 pages side by side (which was the origin of this thread), I would only need to place the image once. I can also achieve this by making a single page that is the width of the 13 pages, and not have to worry about incorporating Illustrator. This title could potentially...
