ZIP compression is loss-less, why is it objectionable for you?

This picture doesn't clearly show what exactly is the problem. It seems to show a lot of unnecessary light reflections. But, if you refer to a large "stain" in the middle, my guess is that your vacuum didn't hold the film flat on the drum surface during exposure.

If the top (printed side) of your DVD is not damaged, you should try to polish the bottom side carefully. There are plenty of videos on Yotube. Good luck.

Sometimes increasing the humidity in the air helps. Years ago, when we had static problems with the films in our imagesetter, we activated a humidifier. We don't need to nowadays, because modern films are created "Antistatic".

Silver based imagesetter film is going to be around for quite some time. But, Thermal Film may also be an alternative. Not cheap, scratches easily, but needs no processing. We bought the set of FontLab apps many years ago and they performed great. There was a learning curve, which I didn't personally take, but conversions were done successfully. They would be my first choice for any professional font related issue.

In the past (end of the 20th century) the National Geographic magazine was printed Gravure in the US. Several European editions were printed Web Offset in Spain.

If all you need is a simple numeric string for ID, than it may well be solved by the use of a generic barcode font in your program..

When we need to do such a job we use a barcode program and impose the output in Preps.
