    metering roller issues

You may want to try adding a few ounces of 14 Baum Gum Arabic to your fountain solution, dont use synthetic gum only use the real stuff.

    Normal packing vs permanent packing

Permanent packing works really well. One thing to watch out for is getting moisture under it and developing rust on the cylinders. Every now and then take them off and clean/treat the cylinders to prevent this. Then install new permapacs.

    Used Heidelberg parts

Can't really comment on the US but we have 2 older Heidelbergs up here in Canada and also a new Komori, I have been buying used parts lately from the Komori dealer. They take many old presses back of different manufacturers when they install new presses. I would think Man Roland and KBA must do...

    Ink take off screens

I have used these many years ago, we called them Mouring/Moring bands back then, Roller cooling was a luxury and many presses never had this option so as a last measure we would put screens on the edges of the plates to help control ink/water. Havnt seen these used recently as most rollers are...

Best Press in your opinion ?

We did all our research for a new 40" UV Sheetfed press for folding cartons. Tested all the big boys KBA,Komori, Man roland and Heidelberg over a period of months. Our tests concluded that KBA came out on top but was the most expensive, the colour control system was very impressive but not...

    online measuring device

I have some experience with both the X-Rite Intelitrax and the Techkon Spectrodrive. Both of these devices will do a very good job of scanning a sheet. The Techkon has a removable head and is available in wireless. Do you want the press to be 'closed loop' or just scan and display and have the...

    Question on UV Printing

Sounds like they are trying some form of Metal FX type of printing. Go UV with this for sure or you wont be getting much sleep, make sure your process ink set is transparent enough to allow the silver effect to come through.

    metering roller

There's also a product called MRC (metering roller cleaner) available in North America, not sure about anywhere else. This stuff works great but is not the most human friendly solvent i have worked with, Your health and safety people may have a fit if you get it, but for cleaning Metering...

    What is "Picture Framing"?

Picture framing is a term usually used in the pressroom. Refers to a large build up of ink outside the paper area on the plates or blankets. Like so many Litho problems it can have many causes and a whole bunch of solutions. Never heard of it referenced in the Pre-Press area unless one of the...

    metering roller

You could try a chrome roller desensitizing procedure every night at shutdown and at weekends. If your chromes are original from 1996 they may need some help. There are various methods used, 1.clean chrome with alcohol to remove any ink residue. 2. Clean/scrub chrome with good quality plate...

    Plates Tinting up on Press

Does the problem of the tinting occur on some print units and not others? does the tinting occur with some inks and not others? is the Conductivity being checked regularly at the press? Is there a roller maintenance program in place for replacing/checking re-setting rollers on a regular basis...

Tips for cleaning sheets from rollers??

Sorry dont know of any short cuts to removing sheets from inside the roller train but prevention is better than cure, do a complete check/evaluation of all your two sheet detectors both electronic and manual, I know i'm stating the obvious. We use Ultrasonic and manual detectors and have not had...

    Printing Blanket Test

I think you also have to consider what type of work and stock you will be printing on to select a blanket. Is it carton work on really crappy recycled board where you need to print in the hills and valleys of the stock, will you have to run excessive 'squeezes'(Interference) to print good...

    Printing Blanket Test

I think what is meant is that after you tension a blanket on the press you run some sheets on impression and then re-torque the blanket. The blanket will stretch slighty during printing and this needs to be taken up. If yo udont you can have problems such as miss-register at the tail, scumming...

Ink not drying, PLEASE HELP !!

Have you tried what is reffered to as 'Doped' lamps, these contain iron instead of mercury so work off of a much broader UV spectrum and work well for curing problem colors like Dark blues, blacks and Opaque whites. Just a suggestion.

Dot Gain and Density shift from G7 Targets (Web Press)

Are you 100% certain your issue does not lie in the realm of Blankets, packings, ink/water balance, slurring/doubling(mechanical) or other such pressroom devils, have you tried another ink supplier to validate your suspicion about the ink. Can you measure your plates to verify they are not...

Water based Flexo inks through an anilox coating tower?

We can use either blankets or Flexo plates on the application units. Plates i think they are Cyrel. We have a Persistaltic pump for the flexo products (Opaque whites, Heavy Metalics) and a Diaphragm pump for waterbase and UV coating

How to convert one colour offset press to UV-coater?

Trying to print UV coating in a printing press roller train i think will be quite a challenge, i would have thought converting the dampening unit to some type of coating application unit would be better rather than trying to transfer UV coating through a litho roller train, i doubt whether you...

Water based Flexo inks through an anilox coating tower?

There is no difference between a Anilox 'coating' tower and a flexo print unit, we have a press with two application units as we like to call them that run flexo ink or coating as required, Litho guys have to become flexo guys for those units and that is an issue sometimes.
