    LED viewing lamps?

Has anybody switched to LED viewing lamps? One of our maintenance technicians just approached me and asked about the implications. I told him as long as the lamps were ISO 3664 compliant it would probably be ok, but to let me find out what I can. Any input? Thank you. Regards, Todd

Selling it all to the bare walls!!!

If anybody has any interest, or knows of someone who may have some interest, we have available (for a limited time only) a beautiful purple Spectroscan in perfect working order. I have been told it was used sparingly by a little old color geek to measure color targets on March 29. We also have...

Stick a fork in me, I'm done!

It is time for me to say goodbye to printing. What started as a labor of love 35 years ago, has turned into a daily torturous grind. I leave an industry that has been transformed from skilled craft, to a manufacturing process governed by the laws of 'lean' that seem to emphasize and focus...

    Iso 15339?

I checked on the ANSI website and could find no publication available for the ISO 15339 specification. The ISO website has it available? I would like to purchase the publication and add it to our ever-growing ISO library! It is riveting info! :) Regards, Todd

Does anybody know the name of the image suite used in iProfiler, and is it available for public use? Thank you in advance, Todd

    Time to upgrade!

We haven't purchased new color measurement hardware in over 6 years. I am just wondering if anybody thinks there is a market out there to sell our used equipment, Purple SpectroScan, DTP 70, older i1's, all in working condition. If so, where would one look to sell these, and does anybody have...

    Dot gain question?

Knowing that the Murray-Davies equation uses the density of the substrate, the density of the solid, and the density of the sample dot %, and assuming that your plates are imaging correctly, is it safe to assume that the diameter of the dot on the plate really doesn't effect dot gain? Regards, Todd

    Statistical process control?

How, who, and what, would be my questions to anyone willing to share where does a company start with statistical process control in the press room? How do you keep statistics, software, manually, or other? Who is responsible, a statistical process engineer, the press room operators, prepress...

Low dot gain & poor trap values?

Our presses are G7 calibrated. Our CtP plate setter is calibrated and our plates are measured on a regular basis to confirm calibration. R/O system is in place for our incoming water supply. We run Komori and Heidelberg presses, which use a different series fount from the same manufacturer. We...

    Spot colors and gradients?

We all know that spot colors and gradients do not play well together. Color shifts, graying, intensity changes are a few of the issues that arise when a gradient and spot color are introduced. Does anybody have a good explanation why this happens? Thank you! Regards, Todd

Low dot gain on Komori Lithrone SX-29 6 color press

I completed a G7 calibration in early August, 2012 on our newly installed Komori Lithrone SX-29. The G7 calibration and subsequent verification runs were textbook to say the least. Now, in the last two weeks our dot gains on this press have dropped 5-6%, and of course there are color matching...

Elliptical vs. Round vs. Square dot shape?

We print most of our 4 color work at 200LS with an elliptical dot shape. I wasn't involved in this decision, and we have been printing like this for at least 10 years. I have been asking why we chose to do this, and of course, most of the responses have been , 'we've always done it like that'...

    .....what if?

I received an email the other day from Pantone. Pantone now offers D50 Lighting Indicator Stickers that can be attached to a proof before it is sent out to the customer. Similar to GATF's RHEM Indicator, but produced with different metamers. These stickers are expensive, $50 USD for 40 stickers...

Can anyone help with a pdf question?

I have noticed a fairly large size difference between pdf's exported out of Illustrator CS v5.1 and pdf's exported out of InDesign CS v5.5. The pdf's exported out of Illustrator are almost twice as large as the pdf's out of InDesign, and there are some noticeable quality differences. The...

    PANTONE Certified Printer Program?

I see PANTONE has announced the PANTONE Certified Printer Program. I'm just looking for everyone's opinion and feedback on this. Is Xrite stepping on the toes of IDEAlliance? The costs of certification and recertification are through the roof $7,850 & $6,050 respectively, plus additional costs...

    InkDrop, or InkDropped?

I don't see very much discussion about InkDrop, which leads me to believe: 1. the economic standstill has slowed the acceptance and deployment of the ink saving add-on, or 2. those that have integrated InkDrop are tight-lipped about there experiences, or reluctant to share any insight. InkDrop...
