    InDesign Mystery

Hmmmm - never had that problem with Quark. But then again, that's about the only problem I never had with Quark.

Who was the Greatest Person in History of Printing?

Without a doubt; Johannes Gensfleisch zur Laden zum Gutenberg 1) He had the first Kwik-print shop with a slogan of: "In by Noon - Out by June" 2) He had the first spell-check technology......a mirror 3) No extra charge for ALL CAPS....and most importantly..... 4) He didn't have to deal with...

    Prepress Tips for Designers

Almost as bad is the designer that lays-out a 148 page perfect-bound book in Illustrator; in their interpretation of printer's spreads; each "spread" on a separate layer; bleeds built into the size of the page set-up; various layers and/or design elements locked when they attempted to Covert...

    Questions!

As long as we're still going...... Our shop uses AVO's (Avoid Verbal Orders) for special instructions on any given job. Here are some of my favorite AVO's I've collected over the years - and these are exact quotes, mind you...... #1) Exactly like sample enclosed - except for the paper and...

    Questions!

When people ask me what I do for a living, I tell them, "I have a job that people don't know is a job until I tell them it's a job." Y'all might want to check out clientsfromhell.net. It's full of more of the same stuff as we have on this thread. Enjoy!

A while back, an ex-coworker came up with a list of Photoshop filters/plug-ins that might help satisfy some of those quirky customer requests....

    Questions about the US

Just a quick "two cents" on the healthcare in general: Before WWII there was virtually no formal/private healthcare insurance in the US. Healthcare insurance became a perk employers began offering after the war as an incentive to attract, and keep, quality employees. I has taken a little over...

What book are you currently reading?

    InDesign gradient question

Colorblind - This may sound odd, but try making you dieline a standard PMS (Book) color (i.e. PANTONE 342 C set to overprint) and not a CMYK-built spot color. If that doesn't give you the results you're looking for, go old school. Make two files; one with the dieline left as CMYK (not spot)...

    Canon service?

wonderings - We have a Canon ipC7000 and have had overall good dealings with Canon. However, I have a colleague with the same machine who has had nothing but problems dealing with Canon. He is currently in a legal battle with both divisions over the terms of each contract agreement - as are...

How to Back up with Cockpit?

Mx - I do not have the "Add High Resolution Output Files" option checked in the Template I created. The Signa jobs might have to be backed-up separately depending on how your workflow is set up. In our workflow, all the Signa information is coded into the JDF file for each job so all aspects of...

How to Back up with Cockpit?

Mx - In case you haven't found a solution, here's how I back-up my Cockpit jobs. The first thing you'll want to do is create a folder on the PrintReady server for your exported jobs. I named mine "Exported Jobs" but you can name it whatever you want to. Then go to the Sequence Templates list...

Preventing PR3.5 from converting dieline spot color?

You can create a processing Sequence Template called "All Colors" which can leave spot colors as is. Just make sure that all Die Lines are set to overprint (either in the original layout files, or using the Printready Trap Editor plug-in in Acrobat). For final output, just turn that specific...

How to fix skew on SpinJet 5500

Sorry for the late reply, pworden. We're running a similar configuration with Saphira (Heidelberg) dual sided imposition paper; 3" core. Have you checked the rollers on the proofer? The skew could merely be the result of dirty and/or worn rollers.
