    Looking to Learn

A bit behind on the timeline, I know, but I would definitely second the sentiments of postnetnc... contact NAPL and ask to speak with someone concerning a course of study exactly as you described. Custom-created education programs such as you described, are right up their alley.

    FSC Logo and its usage

This really depends on the size/volume of your shop and the relative complexity of your workflow. You also have a leg-up since you obviously do your research first so you'll know what to expect. Creating specific procedures and the like can take days or weeks, training can take the same amount...

    FSC certification

Well, we've kinda done that in the states with the SGP (Sustainable Green Printing Partnership) https://www.sgppartnership.org/though it costs money to be a member, imagine that. -We even charge each other when creating our own systems.

    FSC certification

yep yep This is the key, if you do not plan on making the claim, it's not necessary. Thus, it would be a ton of extra rigamarole if you didn't end up making a claim in the future on that overstock and a hassle to try and explain to your auditor. Not to mention, they'd probably give you flack...

    FSC certification

In my experience, we didn't have to keep running inventories of certified materials, but we did need to keep records of what certified materials came in and went out. This was one of the main things they wanted to see during our surveillance audits so I kept it pretty detailed.

    Teaching Intro to Publishing

Ahh yes, manual stripping and camera work. I used to HATE hearing the undergraduates whine and moan about having to strip ONE PROJECT! And, I don't think there's any great way to teach estimating in school other than just to learn a lot of it on the job. The school environment is too...

    FSC certification

Respect to SGP certification! If some other organization that has nothing to do with our needs as an industry [FSC] can make rules for us to live by, then why shouldn't we be able to govern ourselves and make sure we do it in a responsible manner with issues that actually concern our industry?

    Teaching Intro to Publishing

Truer words have never been typed. ALL of the shops I've worked in have press operators that can't stand prepress operators and vice-versa. I believe this is because one group "knows" that the other doesn't empathize with them. Arguable the most important thing you can impress on your students...

    Introduce yourself!

My name is David, I live in Atlanta and have been in printing since 2002. I went to ASU and Clemson earning printing degrees from both (B.S., M.S.) respectively. Recently the shop I had worked at since 2007 closed after being in business just shy of 40 years. This website has an interesting mix...

    FSC certification

The analogy isn't that great, but the reasoning is there. The fundamental misunderstanding between our organizations and the FSC/SFI/PEFC is if we "mix" certified w/ non-certified stock, we will essentially lose money anyway. (So what difference does it make if we write down procedures or not...
