ICC Profiles, and Press Scenarios, and Color Accurate Proofs... Oh, my!

We found out the best way to suit and match our needs was to create a device-link profile for the proofer and printers. We also use the same paper to proof on that we print on, but agree with Michael Ejahn "Output Intent" works better for color stock.

    Digital Printer Recommendations

You are correct Stickman, inkjet soaks into paper, laser is fused into the paper. Laser for the most part is better quality. That said, we use both i am driving we need the millions of impressions a month of the OCe JetStream. There are two new inkjet out by Canon that produce magazine quality...

    Identifying layered TIFs in InDesign

I always recommend flattened PSD files whether they save as Tiff or not, otherwise font issues plus others.

    Job Training

I was told I was too old (then 52) to sit at a computer 8 hours a day by a company Prez after the VP had verbally hired me. I replied "40 hours a week would be rough since I was working 60+ hours a week at the time and had never worked a 40 hour week in my career (always over)"

Correct device for achieving color management

I use the i1Pro with both profiler and i1 Process Control. Works great for offset & digital and supposedly silk screen. Gave me better icc profiles than Xitrons's profiler. Comments are personal and my views may not be shared by my employer or partners.

    Prepress Training

Since the 90's I have had to re-train anyone who had classes on desktop publishing. One of my favorites was a Fullsail grad who could not even read a ruler and was amazed when I showed him that Quark had a ruler built in! He still could not figure out the math of a perfect bound book so had to...

Changing workflows. Rampage -> Xitron Sierra?

Lester, Yes you can select and object but without testing it, I am not sure if it does not apply to all of the signature or piece depending on if you what type product you are using. The only negative thing I can say about Xitron is that there is a difference in knowledge among their techs.

Changing workflows. Rampage -> Xitron Sierra?

We leave active jobs on the client. For instance, pressmen can come into Prepress on weekends and replace a damaged plate with the current one in the que on Magnus or resend from Client without requiring prepress to be here. This facet alone has saved the company a great deal of OT. ….and...

Changing workflows. Rampage -> Xitron Sierra?

We are having Alaskan temperatures here in Alabama, but hopefully Xitron can get you up and running soon, or the vendor you are purchasing it through. I just got out of a meeting with our head programmer and will also be using one of the functions of Sierra to archive transactional data and to...

In need of personalized book printer

Can easily be done on a digital sheet feed printer with embedded variable in PDF file(s). I was doing these 12 years ago so it should be easy to find someone who can do it all inline as we did.

    Fuji XMF Workflow

Creating portal files at the same time plating files are created. Embedding variable data information to go to digital web as well as what we run as stock inventory on offset from same file.

    Fuji XMF Workflow

We have been using XMF workflow for over a year….never crashed, works great and the ability to use it as an extended workflow outside of plating is a bonus.

    Acrobat CC

I use XI and like it. I have used ever version of Acrobat since I started in DTP 26 years ago. Acrobat has been one of the best products out there and now combined with Pitstop, I can create, change and manipulate client files fast and easier than ever before!

Printing Inks and the Mechanisms of Printing – New Technology?

I agree with you Gordo, but our customers are driving to an inkjet work flow over offset & toner based on speed & price.

    Heidelberg Prinect vs. Fuji XMF

I have been using the XMF workflow for exactly 1 year now and could not be happier with it. Color control as well as creating multiple uses from the same file has been a great time saver.
