Ricoh vs Cannon vs Xerox Quality...

We just go it, but I like it so far (fingers crossed). Coverage on coated seems good and it feeds stocks that typically gave us issues (like adhesive stocks) very well and it will run up to 400 gsm. I actually haven't had a chance to check how it does on uncoated stocks. Do any machines get...

Ricoh vs Cannon vs Xerox Quality...

Yeah, I don't see many Canon posts here either. (I've always wondered why) I've been working on Canon imagepress machines for about 9 years now, from the old 5000 series, to the 8000s to our new V series. Each new generation tends to be a big step up. As far as the topic here, I can't say much...

how much ventilation is really needed for digital presses?

We run Canon digital presses and I just go ahead and assume they are releasing toner into the air. We run an Austin air purifier in the print room and I have a smaller one in my office as well. I get a funky buttered popcorn-like smell occasionally that I figured was toner, but I don't get it...

    Font issue

Actually that worked. Thanks for the suggestion. The reason we didn't try that initially is because the designer supplied us with a (supposed) print ready PDF as well as the InDesign file and we got two different issues when printing them. Printing from the customer's PDF (see below) caused...

    Font issue

We are printing a file for a customer from their native InDesign file. (We send to Fiery>impose and print on a Canon Image Press 8000). The customer supplied the font (Muli), we're also able to activate the font on Adobe, we even dropped the customer supplied font into the Adobe/Fonts folder and...

And you need customers who know how to create PDFs properly. (Maybe that's what you meant by tools?😉)

    Variable Data Printing Software

Thanks for the reply on an old thread. Our version of Print Shop mail won't do PPML. Our current workflow (with PSM) can process up to 4000 records but we need to triple that if possible. After a couple attempted solutions we're now looking into the Design Merge plug-in for InDesign. Looks like...

Transparency issues-where objects on screen disappear when printed- would be the most common for us. Transparency issues with spot colors. Also fonts that don't print correctly. Missing bleeds. PDFs created from Word that have formatting changes that the customer didn't notice before submitting.

Pdf saved with/without Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities

Good question. I worked in illustration/design for 25 years before I finally got into printing and the rift between the two disciplines in big (and it still seems like there aren't many bridges being built). I still meet a lot of talented digital illustrators who have no idea what the difference...

    Variable Data Printing Software

I know this is an old thread- I'm trying to avoid starting a new one. We have been using PrintShop mail for years (an older version) but we are currently running into issues with out Canon Image Press machines crashing when processing over 5000 addresses. (We used to be able to run 20,000 with...

Who creates the artwork for your online print shop

We get lots of "design" work from people using Canva, Powerpoint, Word, etc. The issue is not compatibility with printing but limitations on what the designer can do with those programs given the programs limitations. (But that's no different than someone using InDesign and not knowing how to...

Reverse curl issues within the shop.

Sorry, I meant Secondary Fuser. On our machines (Canon image press 8000) the gloss papers run through a primary and secondary fuser whereas the uncoated papers only go through the primary. Sometimes we get curling issues with our uncoated papers but I can usually eliminate this with a workaround...

    Discontinuing Blazer???

Pro digital was cracking for us too often on tri-folds and such (even after scoring). Titan and Blazer both worked better.

    Trouble Getting Heavier Digital Stock

We've been able to get Pt Platinum Coated Papers (I think that's the brand. The box is kind of generic looking) in 130# Digital Silk Cover, 18x12. Made in Spain. It has a nicer finish than both the Blazer and Titan.

Reverse curl issues within the shop.

Are the sheets running through a secondary fixing unit that is possibly causing the curl? So then maybe it's an issue with the way the profile of the paper is registered? Just a guess..
