2 PMS colour PDF printing incorrectly

Hi

Firstly, forgive me if this is in the wrong forum, I wasn't 100% sure where it fits best.

I have been supplied with a PDF file, made of two PMS colours only. There is a bitmap image within this PDF which is made up of a mixture of these two PMS colours (anywhere from say 10%/10% up to full coverage of 100%/100%.

We are just trying to do a digital proof - obviously not for colour accuracy, just something to show the client. The printer is a DocuColour 5252, running a Fiery RIP.

When we open this file in Acrobat 9 Pro, and print to the 5252, it prints ok. However, if we open this file in Acrobat 6 Pro (on another machine), or import the file onto the rip, the bitmap image in the middle of the PDF prints out with a very strong magenta tinge. However, the rest of the colours are ok (just boxes etc containing one of the colours).

I'm not sure what might cause this. I've compared the print settings in Acrobat and they appear to be the same (albeit there are some differences between v6 and v9). I'm thinking there may be some sort of colour profile issue, but I don't really know much about colour profiles.

Any help would be appreciated. If you need more information, please ask.

Yes the colour handling in Acrobat Pro 9 is much improved, and as I understand all the learning of the development of the Adobe PDF Print Engine ( v 2 to be precise) is actually in Acrobat some how. Why can you not print from Acrobat 9?
Acrobat 6 assumes a PostScript RIP to handle separations. I think you may get a better result if you make sure overprint is simulated.
(Describing a magenta cast and not saying what the two spot colours are is stretching us in the realm of divination ;p)

Thanks for the reply.

I have just done some more research, and found then when printing from Acro 6, when selecting "simulate overprint" from the advanced options in the print dialogue, it solves the problem.
