A few questions

Hi,

Im interested in Trueflow, a few things ive wondered are,

Proofing, how does it work, does it generate a ROOM tif file that can be sent to a third party RIP, eg EFI colorproof XF?

Imposition, is this built in and can it use templates or jdf impo files?

Are hot folders created for different scenarios, eg, drop pdf file, rip, trap, impo, proof, then final ouput, all automated without user intervention?

I currently use prinergy workflow, can anyone point out any similarities or major differences.

thanks.

Hi Cosmo,

There are a lot of output formats that can be chosen but for proofing we use TIFF which is automatically sent to our EFI colorproof XF RIP.

The built in imposition software is Flatworker or Impose editor from which signature templates are built and imported to Trueflow. We use this method although Trueflow does support JDF it would probably depend what imposition information the MIS supplies.

Hotfolders can be created with predefined steps as you mentioned and accepts PDF, PS, EPS and a couple of others. All these steps can be automated or tailored to wait for user approval before proceeding to the next step. eg proofing stage to plate stage approval.

thanks for your reply, a couple more things, how do you calibrate for linear plates and also different dot gain curves, is it an easy process? Also, I know there is a 1bit tiff final output option, is there also pdf final output option?

Which platesetter are you using? The 8800 has self calibration feature in the user maintenance menu on the platesetter. You can calibrate for a selected resolution and media type. Our setup technicians calibrated the platesetter for linear plates and is a bit complicated to describe here. See the technical manual which should have come with the machine.

Dot gains are sent from the rip and I assume you're using Trueflow. Dot gains can be set up using the dot gain tool available from the start menu->maintenance/trueflow folder. These are assigned in the basic settings of "rip for recorder" in the workflow of a hotfolder or job container.

Hope this helps
