Without being fleeced by Roland for the second time in a week.........where could i get a new Angle Encoder for a Roland 605 without going through Roland direct?

You mean an Angle Encoder. Look at the one you have, write down all the information on it including the manufacturer. Then go on the internet and search for electronic equipment suppliers and see if someone has one or a nice supplier who can help locate one. What's causing the problem with the encoder? It's rare for them to go on the fritz
 
Encoder Problems, has your electrician tested the device with an oscilloscope:
A) All tracks are failing?
B) Noise on the connecting cable, nullifying groups of pulses?
C) Mechanical connection e.g. coupling slippage, nullifying groups of pulses?

It is also possible that oil has penetrated the seals of the outer housing and is now blocking the etched disk.
 
Yeah call IGS. They get their parts from manroland so where do you think the part will be cheaper?
