APPE - Risky Business

Use this rip carefully. I've been having a problem with fonts, the plates didn't match up to the lasers. Will switch back to CPSI. Don't know what else to do. Also thinking about going back to making postscript files instead of exporting PDFs.

I've had nothing but good experiences with APPE in Prinergy, I am on version 5 but I don't remember any huge issues with 4. I'd try to contact your Kodak rep and send him some sample files. I was on a PC with version 4 and now I am Mac based using version 5.

The ability that APPE gives you to process transparency is too good to give up on. I'd see if you can somehow work this out with a bit of technical support.

The problem I find is that sometimes it takes a bit of digging to talk to the right person at Kodak. If you aren't on a service contract that can get rather expensive wading through the first couple of layers of phone support til you get the man (or woman) you need.

FYI. When you are using Prinergy 4.0 your APPE RIP is Version 1.1.4001.1
When you are using Prinergy 4.1 or 5.0 Your version is APPE 1.14008.5.
When you are using Prinergy 5.1 you are using the very latest Adobe Extreme RIP
APPE Version 2.0.4002_3.

Kodak encourages Prinergy 5.1 users to use the APPE Version 2 RIP. It seems most of us turn to the APPE RIP at hand for the workaround. APPE Version 2 would be the last resort.
I am interested in any problem files anyone has. Be happy to try them out and report results.
