Anybody else buy an iPhone when it was $599? If you missed the news, Apple dropped the price to $399 yesterday.

I bought my 15 days ago, 1 day past Apple's 14 day return policy.

TUAW has a blog post with more details: "Apple screwed you: So now what?" [http://www.tuaw.com/2007/09/05/apple-screwed-you-so-now-what/]

Update:

In an open letter to current iPhone Steve Jobs wrote:

"Therefore, we have decided to offer every iPhone customer who purchased
an iPhone from either Apple or AT&T, and who is not receiving a
rebate or any other consideration, a $100 store credit towards the
purchase of any product at an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online
Store. Details are still being worked out and will be posted on Apple's
website next week. Stay tuned."

Re: Apple screwed you: So now what?

Well, for one, stop running with the herd and buying the latest goodie just because it's new. Show some self control and common sense.

Re: Apple screwed you: So now what?

stop running with the herd. now that's some interesting advice. ;-)

Re: Apple screwed you: So now what?

OK, that sounds like a good plan. +For me to poop on.+

Re: Apple screwed you: So now what?

The credit sounds about right. I'm not disappointed in getting one early at all. Am a bit with the battery, but hopefully that will improve. Now...what to get in the iStore. Hmmm...

Re: Apple screwed you: So now what?

Dude! Totally bought one of those in 1976 for 50 grand. Can I get a store credit???

Re: Apple screwed you: So now what?

I had a "bag phone". A big portable phone like that, with cables and gear to use it as a modem. All so I could sysop CompuServe's LitForum and play trivia games on their "CB" chatroom from the road.

Re: Apple screwed you: So now what?

so, if you get an iphone, you are married to att, right? what do they soak you a month once you drop the $400 on the phone?

i heard some techno-freak hacked one so he could use t-mobile service on it, but he said you had to be a neuro-surgeon to pull it off.

ive never carried a cell phone, not even for work, but this phone has me thinking...

Re: Apple screwed you: So now what?

A number of people have hacked the iPhone so that you can use it with other carriers.
I think it violates the usage agreement though. Slashdot has had the stories over the
last couple of weeks, but I'm sure if you googled iPhone hacked you'd get some hits.

Re: Apple screwed you: So now what?

Yah, the kid did it as a summer project while waiting to go to RIT. Became pretty famous there for a bit. Aside from the battery life and some missing apps, I'm pretty well happy with it. Monthly plans are 60, 80, and 100 a month. Unlimited data. EDGE is pretty slow. Can't wait to see what iPhone 2.0 with 3G will be like. Custom ringtones that you edit yourself in iTunes is coming, as is alot more before the Xmas crunch I'd assume. I look for gaps to be filled on the app. side rather quickly between now and then.

Well doesn't that go for any phone, ISP, or utility? You get a house and you get +the+ man saying hey sign up for my water service. You get a computer and you get the man saying pay me very month for slow throttled bandwidth. You get a cell phone you get tetherd to a carrier.

Everyone gets soaked. It's just a matter of how wet you get and if you can get out without drowning. I got an iphone, I missed the cuttoff.

How wet are you Chris?

Re: Apple screwed you: So now what?

Eric, check out installer.app (http://iphone.nullriver.com/beta/):

+Installer.app is a UIKit based package manager for the iPhone. It works by downloading packages over WiFi (wireless networking) or EDGE. It supports installing, updating and uninstalling applications from multiple sources.+

I have used that to customize my iPhone. Using that you can install apps that let you assign custom ringtones, create voice annotations, and other geeky stuff.

Wanna setup an Apache web server on the iPhone? You can do that with the intaller.app.

Re: Apple screwed you: So now what?

Adam, probably won't mess with that. Do you avoid syncing updates or do you have to re-install all your tricks? Apple's ringtone plan sounds pretty cool. Apache on an iPhone? That sounds about as useful as...well...you know.

Re: Apple screwed you: So now what?

micheal,

Re: Apple screwed you: So now what?

I bought my 20" iMac G5 a month before they released the intel model and I never regretted it or looked back-
'course now I want the shinny new one FFS.

Re: Apple screwed you: So now what?

I bought an iphone the day it came out. I don't regret it at all. The $100 makes me happy though... way to come through Steve!

The iPhone is without a doubt the best phone ever. Yes I have to use ATT shitty network, but it has been my experience that all cell phones and their networks kind of suck. Atleast now my phone doesn't suck.
