GRAPHIC COMMUNICATION - Assistant Professor, two full-time, academic year, tenure track positions at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California, beginning September 12, 2011. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Teaching assignment will include courses in one or more of the following areas: premedia, workflow, database applications, web site development, packaging, digital printing, and offset lithography. The individual selected will be responsible for creative lecture and laboratory teaching approaches that include current and emerging technologies to enhance student education and for participating in scholarly practices such as research, conference presentations, and grant development that lead to publication or its equivalent. The successful candidate will also be expected to pursue a systematic program of professional development, curricular improvement, and to participate in service activities including committee service, student advising, and industry liaising.
Required Qualifications / Specialized Skills
Master's degree and industry experience required. Education and industry experience must be appropriate to the graphic communication field. Proven expertise in at least two of the following areas required: premedia, workflow, database applications, web site development, packaging, digital printing, and offset lithography.
Preferred Qualifications / Skills
Ph.D. degree preferred. College teaching experience preferred. Proven expertise in more than two of these areas preferred: premedia, workflow, database applications, web site development, packaging, digital printing, and offset lithography.

The Graphic Communication Department, part of the College of Liberal Arts, offers a comprehensive program in digital and traditional printing, publishing, packaging, digital media, web development, printed electronics and related areas. The department offers a B.S. degree with five concentrations: design reproduction technology, web and digital media, graphics for packaging, graphic communication management, and individualized course of study. The department has approximately 300 majors and over 33,000 square feet of modern laboratories.
