I have an ApogeeX system that trough its printdrive commands a CTP and 2 Avantra.
I want to know, if i have a problem with Apogee, there is a rip (open source) that can use the Avantras like "printers".

I have an HP rip that works with a hp plotter. You think i can connect it to that?

no...u need HQ RIP ..HP RIP ONLY CONNECT HP-PLOTTER

We use a Harlequin Xitron RIP on Mac to front our Avantra 25. Mac OS X 4.1.1 . You can then see the imagesetter like a printer on our AppleTalk network. Hope this helps.

The Harlequin is absolutely the way to go. I would recommend getting a new version running on a PC. That way if you want to run any add-ons you won"t have any issues because some only run on the PC version. Having it talk to a Mac is very simple and can be accomplished in several ways.
