I need - (minus) bleed on b-side pages only,
how do I do it so the bleeding stays on front side?
Im working with preps 5 (mac)

This is because of gluing in spine on web press.

thanks

I was using rectangle mark (zero in colors in all sep) to cover part of page , it worked with brisque workflow, but not with Apogee. Im working around it using two A-sides, but id rather not go that way.

It's dirty but How I would do it

Don't think you can make different bleed on front and back in preps :(

I'd first try and do it in the design app.

Or

Make the page -2mm narrower on the B sides (and zero bleed) but it is a long job to make such a template and you will get errors saying page size missmatch. Centre the pages and +1mm extra bleed to comensate the difference in size

thanks, I have used indipendant pages on B-side, dont like the extra work. But why does the covering of rectangle not work, that would be the best way.

What if you cover with a knockout rectangle of "special colour 3" and then disgard that plate? Or spot colour "knockout white".

I'm wondering, if this is a glue issue in the spine, why you need bleed on the front in the spine?

say its an 8 page leaflet, I dont want minus-bleed (3mm white line)
on pages 1 and 8 (front and back page) nether on pages 4 and 5 (centerspead) . But pages 2 and 7 are glued to 3 and 6 in spine, there we need 3mm free for the glue.

thanks,

If you select the page, "Get Information" then "Additional Settings", you can then set the bleed from "Use Defaults" to "Use Custom Bleed Relative to Front". Now you must note that this affects the front and back of a page - unless this page is an Independent Page with a "0" Front or a "0" Back.

I have done many templates and have never built one like yours. Is this a request from your Binder?

Let me know if I can help further.

Like others have already said, Preps 5 allows will allow negative bleed but it will put it on the backing page also, the only way I know of to do it to individual pages is by manually adding a white box on the template. This is how we do it at my work.

allrighty then :) thanks guys.

The rectangle mark will not work because the page and template images are always added using OR logic (sort of like the multiply blending mode). If you are ripping to a Printdrive server and are using DQS, you can adjust the pages separately in Printdrive after the job is ripped. You would have to do this again every time the template is ripped. If this would be a commonly used template, the best solution is probably to use two single-sided pages by making one or more independent pages (the front side page would be numbered zero on the back and the back side page numbered zero on the front). The bleed of the imposition-based page edges that are set to "default" will always be the lesser of the global amount set in the RIP and the width of the adjacent margin. Independent pages set to "default" will pay no mind to the imposition margins and will bleed into adjacent pages if you do not explicity set the distances (e.g. zero on the spine edge of saddle-stitched pages).

I have been using both ways, setting pages on front as 1 and 0 then add indipendant page for the b-side. Also setting the templette upp as two A-sides, then work the bleed seperatly.

I tried to add all sorts of marks on topp of a page, and as kyle said, they always multiply-ed , thats why I dont see the white rectangle. The 2 workarounds are riskier than the standard templette, that I dont want.

thanks again.

I am actually an employee at a print company and have been for over 10 years. I don't get to log on here much so I post any help I can at that time. I went through most of the workflow posts and nothing really pertained to what we do at our company. We are a moderate sized printer who don't use web presses and aren't small like Kinkos. A lot of the proofing machines and plating information don't pertain to me. Instead I try to help with the areas I know. I work with more PDFs than most print companies so the two programs I use the most are PitStop and Imposal. I have posted regarding Acrobat and PitStop and have commented in the past on InDesign. I thought this forum was a way for printers to correspond and help, not to rip on people's responses. I happen to really believe in this product as well as PitStop and will recommend them whenever and however I feel. Thank you for your nice comment though! :)

Suzy,

I think what Stiv was trying to get at is the initial post was a question about a problem in Preps and they were looking for an answer about for Preps.

Too often Sales people post a reply when it is not wanted and your reply did look like a sales person pitch. I do have to ask though, since I looked at their site and didn't see an answer. Does Imposal do signature work like a 16 pager?

16-Pager

16-Pager

Sorry for the "pitch". We just used to work with Preps and it was a nightmare. As to your question it does make signature booklets. I think you can download the software and try it out. We make booklets all the time with it. Thanks!
