Buffered fountain solution

Hi,

I am finding answer from many days about fountain solution.
I was jst wondering why all buffered solution have pH range from 4.3 to 5.3?

Why we are keeping this pH? Why not other range?
 
Do you find greater success outside the 3.9-5.0 window?
Your measurement is only as good as the calibration of your ph tester.

I find some meters lose calibration quicker than others, the press guys are not great at taking care of the device either
 
The pH levels in fountain solution have gone from 3.5 (about five years ago) to around 5.5 now mostly due to the alkalinity of the paper that is used today. Fountain solution that is too acidic can break down paper and cause contamination in your water system and/or rollers. A more neutral pH doesn't have as much of an effect on the paper. The increased alkalinity in the paper is due to the fillers and brighteners used to satisfy the eyes of our customers and the pockets of us printers.
