I am never able to open your posted literature, I am sure I am missing out on a great deal of knowledge.
As for surface energy on ctp plates, try placing a drop of water on the background and a drop of the same water on a solid area of image of a plate and characterize the difference you see. There was a time when water would spread aggressively on the background to the point that a drop of water would have no discernible height and that a drop of water on a solid image area would maintain a height nearly equal to its diameter. There are many plates on the market today that have such a small difference in surface energy between the image area and background, the difference is difficult to measure by any practical means.
