Alois, your reference has no relationship with the "Friends" concept.

Also the industry has made a turn back to the concept in the 28 year old article. Anicolor from Heidelberg and the Karat, Genius and Rapid 74G from KBA are concepts that the article said was being rejected back then.

Can you be a little more up to date? :)

Closing the loop on press in color control

Closing the loop on press in color control

Hello Alois and thanks for your post. At the risk of running a pun on balance your thoughts may be a bit offset.

The goal in the pressroom is to simplify automation. The challenge to your 1982 PDFs still remains that is to accurately standardize pressroom repro color.
The IT8 works in proofing to meet ICC profiling needs. There are simpler methods for pressmen today, for example in running press' to GRACoL Gray Balance.

Some of the technologies seen in your articles eg: Demia Plate Scanners re-badged by press makers never worked.
Back then CTF workflows also never worked in stochastic or, in plate measuring. Some of the other technologies did and remain of value like offline press scanners.

CTP = the loss of film true printers touchstone so ~ 1997 the industry needed a new technology to accurately measure plates which my company introduced in 1998 standardizing most to the CCDot.

CTP workflows then enabled G7 gray balance to work as a true metric on press.
If controlling on press color is better than not then it is is best to read every color bar element, on every single impression.
This newer technology is relative in both the speed of on press color make-readies as well as more consistent on press color. With less press Density color bounce one sees better results and more profits no matter what generation press operated.
